so me and my SO got into a pissing contest about this tonight. i said emphatically it was led zepplin. close second being pink floyd followed closely by queen. he mentioned tom petty and i had to give him that. so classic rock wise, in your opinion, who’s the best?

They're more blues than pop but the lines are blurred. You could almost argue Zeppelin are pop.

The number of hits the Stones have dwarfs any other band. They survived decades when other supposedly equal bands couldn't keep it together.

Rolling Stones pop? They weren't pop. Contemporaries like Hermans Hermits and the Dave Clark Five were the pop bands. The Stones were blues based R&R who happened to be the best. Worlds Greatest Garage Band, evah.

Rolls with it...

Can't think of anything that isn't pure shite after "Some Girls", and "Miss You" sucks. (... and thankfully the NFL stopped playing "Start Me Up" at games).

They could have rested on their laurels long before that and still have been in contention.
If thats your argument you better come up with a better alternative than Foghat

yeah - a few good tunes among them, but that’s about it. was thinking more about bands that rolled out album after album of iconic music.

TBH, I'm tossing those bands in like turds in the punchbowl because that whole classic rock thing has become a Muzak to me, especially the over orchestrated stuff that was super popular in the 70s and I've been hearing it for over 40 years. I would rather hear the mash up of the Gilligan's Island theme song with Stairway to Heaven than the actual Stairway to Heaven one, more, time.

there's a case to be made for the Beatles as well.......Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Elvis (not only is he a band, but an aftershave), The Jimi Hendrix Experience, and of course, Coldplay (they're kinda old or just played out, I don't know).
