Belated R.I.P. Berkeley "Cigar Man"

To many he was known as "Cigar Man" or just plain "Dave" up at The Wall in Berkeley. He worked the LBL, and frequently stopped at the Wall on his way home via Grizzly-Skyline home to Montclair.

He made friends with many at the Wall during the 70-80-90s. Quiet, thoughtful, melancholy, he wore black and often seemed to be trying to forget or remember something he never shared.

He was my moto-riding buddy, and my best friend for years, even though he was a cruiser sort of rider, and I was mostly a "let's rip this road" rider.

He had troubles, and those finally caught up to him. He left a wife, some kids, a motorcycle and some painful memories.

Motorcycles were a good fit for Dave, no need to have a conversation about anything, just be ready for the next corner, and keep on rolling.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to see him at the end to say goodbye, so I hope he had a soft landing when the time came. If anyone deserved one, he did.

Condolences.

And it would seem you need to write more about him. And you. And the adventures you shared.

Sorry for the loss of your friend. That was a great write-up. I hope someone does that for me when the time comes.

Ah, you're right!

Like the "Road trip through Sierra, and The 10,000 Dollar Royal Flush at the Peppermill In Reno."

I'll scribble it up this afternoon when I get near an actual keyboard.
