Bay Bridge Breakfast Barfing: Shamrock Edition 3/2/18

February flew by and this Friday is already March. So, time for the BBBB...

What: Stop on your commute for coffee and hang time with fellow Bay Bridge moto-commuters.
Where: Treasure Island, at the parking spaces on the water across from the little convenience store.
When: This Friday 3/02/18, as long as you can stay between 7-9am. Or whatever. The bulk of people seem to get there between 8 and 9. Even if you end up there by your lonesome, it's a nice way to start your Friday.

If you're fancy, people bring good coffee and right proper snacks, but if you're a deadbeat like me Surj, the little convenience store has coffee too, which was good enough in the salad days of the BBBB. Bring something tasty and everyone will love you forever.

I've been a total flake with these and it looks like we'll have a little rain on Friday, but I should be there around 8:15 AM this time. :)

:laughing

I'm a definite maybe.

That's what happens when fancy people bring their own coffee instead of supporting local businesses.

Nooooooooooooooo!!!! RIP shack of terrible coffee.

Well, I'll bring coffee, milk, sugar, and Splenda. Probably also some sort of baked good.

Both of those statements are (edit to be nice) not true.

Lol. I bring coffee to share among friends, even ‘silently-grateful’ friends. I share without any expectation of gratitude. But do remember those that constantly say thanks and those that don’t. The snarky ones that gratuitly throw words aimed to bilittle me, they don’t say thanks. Weird. And I still call them friends and will continue to gladly buy them coffee. Break bread, metaphorically, it’s a wonderful experience. You should try.

This is getting weird, but frankly, not inconsistent with your behavior elsewhere on BARF lately.

Look. When Dan and I started this long ago, it was a simple thing, for our fellow moto-commuters on the bridge. It's cool that it grew, that more people came out enjoy each others' company, and brought food and coffee. I've done that quite a bit myself, in spite of your bullshit "you should try" dig.

I honestly can't tell if your passive-aggressive comment is directed at me, someone else, or both... whatever. But since you seem to be butt-hurt about something, I'll point out that I've been making my dumb little "if you're fancy" joke for months, if not years, and the banter in this thread is just riffing on that—from Beks swapping in my name to the obvious sarcasm in my comment that this event led to the demise of the little shop there. Duh.

But since you put such a fine point on gratitude, thank you for inspiring me to waste the time it took to type this.

So, ummm, this is a fun gathering with fun folks. Every time I have brought coffee, I felt that people were appreciative. I am certainly stoked with folks show up with tasty baked goods, too.

See you kiddies on Friday.

Quick follow-up thought. Surj, I hear you about the need to support local businesses. The problem, however, is that some businesses simply don’t try to offer a good service. When I bring coffee, I am still supporting a local business (my local coffee roaster from whom I buy the beans.) I would have been stoked if the market at the meetup spot had good (or even tolerable) coffee and pastries. It’s a hassle to bring coffee and I would MUCH prefer to buy it upon arrival. The fact is that their coffee was just plain horrible.

I’m not that much of a coffee snob. If I don’t love the coffee, I will just put some cream and sugar in it instead of drinking it black. It takes a pretty poor level of coffee for me to refuse to drink it. That market was well below that bar.

As for the back and forth in this thread, I am not sure if there is history in other threads, but it seems out of proportion to the statements made.

Surj, you started these meets and they quickly became my favorite regular BARF event. Your company is always welcome and I have thoroughly enjoyed all of our conversations. I hope that you continue to attend.

Marc, you are one of the most generous people who regularly shows up to these. You almost always bring coffee and refuse to accept payment for it in any form. Try to keep in mind that everyone is grateful for what you bring to the meetup, but not everyone vocalizes it regularly. You’re a good egg. Don’t start looking for issues where there aren’t any.

As for the rest of you clowns, I look forward to seeing you tomorrow. I might wimp out and drive if the weather is horrible. I can ill afford to get sick right now.

:laughing Come on, man. I'm on the record extensively about both sides of the "buy local" thing. There's no need to belabor or defend your position on coffee or buying local, as I think you know. I already said that my statement in this thread was a joke—it was so over the top that I figured that'd be obvious, especially given that you guys know me and my "humor."

That's very sweet of you to say that, Aaron. Thank you. Indeed, why start an issue where there's none? Dissing, even in 'jest', is rarely nice. See you tomorrow, by dry weather.

Some of us, Surj and I in particular, tend to poke fun at people as part of our humor. Rarely, is it meant in a mean-spirited way. I don’t joke around like that with people I don’t like.
