Barfie Awards

Hello All. My original plan was to hand out BARFie awards at the Moto Bash on Treasure Island. Well my intent was good, but for various reasons I could not pull off the Barf Bash. They take a hell of a lot of work and I while I had some volunteers to help and of course Surj at City Bike and MotoGuild partnering with us on it I came to a conclusion there was just too much going on in my life right now to make it right. too much of a good thing to let it go down as a half assed thing. So… with that we postponed the event 1 year basically to allow us to chase real world attendance from the people you want to see there.

However… I have the barfie awards in hand and considering they cost me a finger and a leg I am not going to wait to give those out.

I am going to start handing them out where ever and whenever I can. In fact three have already been delivered. My one caveat is I want to hand them to the recipient. Shipping is not really something I want to do because it means I cannot shake your hand and say thank you..! If you got one of these.. you deserve that because the award itself is not totally as cool as a grammy or Oscar.

They are unique this year though!

So here are the folks that I deemed worthy of receiving a personal thank you and some historical memorabilia from BARF. We all know there are lots of others too. There are so many great folks that come here to discuss motorcycles and more. All of you are appreciated so if your name is not on the list below, don’t think for a minute budman does not have love for you. :teeth

First off are the folks that really help me run the forum behind the scenes. I am just one dude and if I had to decide everything besides a lot of it being screwed up I could have a thousand people going :wtf

2017 Barfie list of recipients:

General Awesomeness:

1. Mrs. Budman – she lets me waste so many hours on my passion and then turns around and helps. She still thinks I will grow up some day, which I won’t…:laughing In the end allowing me to be me is huge. “This Bud’s for you!”

2. Flying_hun is a main adviser and has been an admin for a while now… I can count on Kurt for solid advice (and an awesome pace when we ride too).

3. DucatiHoney is also in the same category except she thinks of what I am thinking before I even think of it. Her effort has been so appreciated over the years.

4. Enchanter is a multi-time winner. Nobody does more for barf than he does. 90% of that is unseen except by other Mods and me. Whether it is dealing with SPAMMERS, setting up new forums for our rallies, fixing USER issues or whatever. He has historically been super supportive in the safety stuff as well and I consider him my right hand man for the barf.

General moderator awesomeness:
5. Butch has been hammering on the Off Road stuff big time. He has visited politicians, written politicians, kept all of the folks that actually help with contacting their representatives on top of the game. He has worked with various AMA guys, does most of our CORVA interaction and still has time to ride with me too. When I say Butch please he usually says yes and it is not just to ask for a smile.

6. Kazman – has been helping in various ways. Repping us at the race track, attending events for barf. Doing graphics for me on various projects. Eric and I go back as long as Butch and I and to think I have guys who have been my friends for more than 25 years are now helping out the moto community is awesome in of itself!

7. Cyclesuzy gets a nod for helping with the women’s forum and her interaction with that and the Terms of Service adjustment and our effort to make barf a more lady friendly place to hang out is well noted. This still is a work in process, but Suzy really helped on that effort and has helped provide a different perspective in the Mod core. She actually has just stepped down from the MC so she is now free to give people shit...:laughing Thanks for all the effort Suzy!

8. Chill has stepped up to be a solid rally master and good friend. We needed help on the rallies after have used flying_hun up so to speak :teeth Chill is all of our rally riders good friend now…! Thank so much man! I am even more happy to say we have become such good friends.

9. two wheel tramp is our Mod rookie of the year for sure (although it has been more than a year :p). She jumped in and engaged right away and has been a super active. She also stepped up and Rally Mastered our Mid-summer Magic rally. Honestly she is so passionate about riding and barf I just wish I had ½ of her energy!

10. Carries An Axe. Nobody on barf is more like a son to me than Adam. He puts in hella effort moderating. He has come up with ideas for events, hosted mod meets, cooked some bad ass meats… basically he rocks!!!

11. DogBoy is getting a nod for working the Couch racers corner and making sure that racing is well repped on barf. Steve loves his racing and that carries over to flat track and supermoto too. Props to you man!

12. SFMCjohn has taken barf into his heart. I can tell. ;) He helped launch the vintage forum, he has shared the incredible history of the SFMC with barfers. He has invited barfers to come to the SFMC for events, he has shared really cool adventure bike ride reports and of late he has helped with Vision Zero Moto Safety stuff too.

General Member awesomeness.
13. Surj is a busy mofo (and now former mod). The busiest motomofo I know. What a pleasure bouncing things off him and what a great partner in the effort to get to a good lane splitting outcome. All while pounding out City Bike issues month after month. You rock man. Don’t forget to take a deep breath once in a while.

14. And then there is…. Holeshot (yes he is a Mod, but that is not why he is getting a barfie). It is because he brings AFM awesomeness to barf. From the inside out barf loves the AFM and between him and several other moderators we are well represented in the paddock and on the grids too.. that love is well represented.!!! Most of you know I have a huge soft spot for the AFM and Berto has dug into that and brought a lot of good things from both together.

15. So now let’s take a look at something that is such a barf classic community thing it makes me smile a smile a mile wide. The FREE NEWB trackday effort put on by several barf members is awesome and ZZ. Just the sort of thing a community should do for each other.. and you know what? BARF had nothing to do with it other than provide a conduit to be awesome with..! :banana ..and they have done it more than once!! :party
So:

Bassem
Shouldnthave
Buford
Raymond h2002
• And DBenj

……..are all getting a big slap on the back from me!

You guys rock and helping out other motorcyclists is what barf is really about at its core. Nice job!

16. CJ –OaklandF4i is another dude that has shown what community is about… and the BARF BAJA rides have become an epic journey to another country for the joy of two wheels. Having friends ride with you, support you, and be there to laugh at you if you fall down is awesome. I think CJ will do all of the above! :laughing

17. Boney is getting a nod from me. This old school barfer is the reigning Cal24 Champ, has taken time out of his life to share in some MotoSafety stuff too. Sometimes you just got to go with the cool people to hand out an award too. Boney is that cool in my book.

18. Speaking of cool there are some other folks that have inspired with posts on barf. That is why Littlebeast is a barfie winner. Her consoling and heart felt words in RIP threads have not gone unnoticed. In general he words are well chosen and when she posts I take notice. Thank you!

19. Woodschick..!! Her threads documenting her adventures are road maps to places I will only dream about going. So awesome!! Her ties to the old days of the AFM warm my heart too.

20. If anyone can stuff more into a trip report than HadesOmega I would like to see that!!!! Amazing. You should be working for a travel agency web development service.

21. Then you have just amazing members. rebekahlynn qualifies. Lets see:
• Rally rider
• Baja Rider
• Offering her bike to injured riders and more…! This lady rides, smiles and rides some more… :applause

22. RRR70 is the biggest barf contributor out there. Around here.. constantly. I have said wow so many times to his generosity.

23. Oaklandish is getting a nod too, for his group rides… they have been going on for a while and sharing the road is really a core part of what got barf going.

24. SuperMike!!!! The go to graphics guy for barf. Stickers, banners, T shirt designs… Mike has always stepped up and often does it in more ways that just supplying talent and product. Thanks brother.

25. Dreg350 needs an official thank you for his love and support for the loss of a barfer. Glenn Patterson was a stranger to DReg, but he was there when stuff happened. He was really hit by it and left the rally. In the end he comforted the parents and really showed what a motorcycle riders heart is made of. The whole thing has taken a piece out of him, but hopefully looking at the silly little barfie will continue to let him know how special his effort was to me.

26. ThumperX has been due for one of these for a while. She hits the rallies, she hits the stoneybarf, she hits Baja, she hits her government types too. She loves the ride.

27. Nucking Futs is getting a barfie too. He has been a staunch supporter of barf in ways that really no one notices. He help Siggy in a big way when barf racing took an AFM #1 plate. He just recently stepped in with a huge donation to our Carnegie fight. Man... it is so great to have you hanging out here.

28. auntiebling... OK he is a mod and I am thanking him for being a mod and all his help on the classifieds. Barf classifieds have mostly been a big win for barfers I think. You can thank him for righting that ship!

29. Cincinnatus is one hell of an angel. He has rescued quite a few riders and is now a barfie angel too.

Edit.. those handed out now appear as BLUE
Pics... SFMCjohn, two wheel tramp and I at the SFMC clubhouse on Wednesday night. We were there for a Vision Zero/SFMTA meeting. I am so proud to have barf be one of the first if not the first group to help on a Vision Zero motorcycle safety effort.

The barfie itself. It is a 3D twofinger dude in a glass cube. Throwing it on a lit base that my wife had sure made it sparkle..! :teeth I am sorry the base is not included, but sure adds to the presentation.

EDIT - My office is in Mt. View just off 101 at Rengstroff and Old Middlefield - If you happen to be passing by this please check in with me. I will be going on the two rallies, hand off could always happen there too. Or perhaps at the AFM event at Sears --- or??? Kazman is going to the Cycle Gear deal in SAC in September -- I am almost as happy having him give it to you and doing it myself. Ultimately I will ship if we cannot figure it out!!
I am happy to give my cell to you so we can text and figure out how to get these to the recipients.
