Barcelona riding recommendations?

Hello! I'll be doing some solo traveling in Barcelona and surrounding areas within a 100-200 mile radius. I'm thinking of renting a bike for some riding in nature-filled and scenic areas. Anyone have any recommendations based on past experience as to areas in which I'd enjoy riding (I like twisty stuff, nature, beautiful architecture, tiny towns off the beaten path, etc., NOT touristy stuff). Also, what would you recommend for me to rent? I'm not wealthy, so gotta go on the affordable, non-fancy way, and i'm 5'2. I'm plenty comfortable on a bigger big, just not a boat. Your input is greatly aprpeciated! Thank you!

KLR650 or F650GS if you want to go off roading a bit. Given your height, you should be able to have enough leg lenght on these.

They also have some other dual sports like the DR450 but it sits a little higher.

I have a website of a company that I could give you that rents bikes, possibly in the area or near by

Otherwise, I'd stick with the new ninja 250 for street riding....good enough for the mountains around there and slow enough to keep you out of trouble.
And yes, I know you can handle a much faster bike on the track.

Anyone else?:ride

Anything else? Why yes...could you plan my route for me? Do they rent Ninja 250s in Spain? A nice light bike is good...I can pick it up when I pull a dumbass move and forget to put my feet down when I'm pulling over to admire a spectacular view. Thank you for your help..... : ) : ) : )

Now flyin' solo...
Maybe MotoLiam (board member) will have some tips if you ping him. He was living (mostly) out of Barcelona the last view years while working on the Pramac GP team. If anyone has ridin' tips for the area it's gotta be him.

you can read my Barcelona motorcycle rental horror story here: http://pinkyracer.livejournal.com/77087.html

lessons:
1. make sure you get comprehensive insurance. Which for a bike in Spain means you need to see if your credit card will insure damages to the vehicle.
2. don't reserve too far in advance unless you like riding in the rain, or they have a decent cancellation policy. But of course in August that's less likely to be a problem.
3. try to ride a bike you like. I rented the biggest POS I've ever ridden, a BMW CS 650, because it was cheap. I used: www.motoespana.com but wouldn't recommend them.

Roads: look on the map and pick the twisty ones. ;-P the Pyrenees are right there!!! I was going to hit them on a better bike the following week, but that never happened. :-( live and learn. here's my Barcelona map: http://idek.net/Mqh

oh, and I did rent a scooter to ride around town for a couple weeks. That was AWESOME!!! http://www.mattia46.com

That's a good idea. I'll call Liam for you napmonster. I don't know why I didn't think of it. I talked to him last week again.

Thanks HiggyB
