This is a BARF first, and it pains me to be put in a situation where this sort of action is necessary.

BARF is first and foremost an online forum, but how we differ from most others is that we form bonds with words that translate over to our real lives. We are proof that the lines between cyberspace and meatspace are ephemeral. No matter how much you post, or how little, come to a meet, a trackday, a rally, and you have the opportunity to cross that line and maybe create a bond with a BARFer that can be life changing. What we do with that opportunity is up to each and every one of us.

BARF has, for the last 10 years, been my sanctuary, online and off. I have been away from the board and away from the meets for periods of time because life has a funny way of taking over, but it has always remained close to my heart. The last year has probably been the hardest of my life, but when I was ready to return, this community embraced me as if I had never been gone, and has helped me rediscover myself. That’s what I’ve done with my opportunity.

I think that each and every one of us finds value in something here, or we wouldn’t come back. This is my community, my family, and as such I value it and protect it.
What this action is all about is protecting what we have here. Looking out for our own, and telling a member that you are no longer welcome in our house.

When someone comes into this community and deliberately violates our trust, over and over again, lies blatantly when offered assistance to right a wrong and feels that the protective response of the community is inappropriate, that person is no longer welcome in our home. Opportunity lost.

There is no TOS violation. This is an executive decision.

Brewbacca, you are banned from BARF. Officially, you are unwelcome at BARF events. Persona non grata. On Wednesday, come man up and make good on your promises and I will not have you 86’d from Family. Show up and don’t make good immediately, and I will have you kicked out. This is a promise. Don’t fuck with the community and don’t soil our name.

I am probably still going to come off as cryptic, but I think I will hit on the major points. This is strictly from my perspective as well, and I am sure that others can fill in the blanks if they want. Names have been changed to protect the innocent.

BB skips out on the bill at the official rally dinner. The staff is kind enough to give out separate checks for 70+ barfers. He lies to the waitress and tells her he left cash on the table. Dodges the bill several times when confronted by "Santa Claus" for him to pay the bill. Waitress confirms to Santa that BB has not yet paid the bill. To protect our name, Santa Claus pays the bill, approaches BB and tells him he owes him $45. BB says he will pay him on Wed at the SF meet.

Word gets around pretty fast. "The keeper of the guest book", "metrosexual," "the sexy albino," JMack and I all talk to BB individually about the situation and his response is "none of your business."

I eventually pull him aside and explain why it is my business. You're fucking with our people and our community, and you're giving us a bad rap. I offer to give him cash to pay back to Santa to clear this up right then and there. He refuses. It also comes out that he doesn't have the money and confirms that he wasn't intending to pay the bill, but was going to skip out on it, making all of us look bad. I walk away. I come back and put cash in his hand and he doesn't take it. I pick it up off the floor later.

If that had been it, maybe he could have been forgiven. The next morning at breakfast, "Nurse Betty" gets a text from BB that he is leaving and that he will pay her for his half of the room on Wed at the meet if she will be there. Of course, I mean, he couldn't afford dinner and said he might not have enough $$$ for gas to get home.

BB had a thread in the rally forum looking for a roommate for the last month. No takers other than my good friend Nurse Betty and that, at the very last minute due to a change in plans.

No matter how you look at it, BB was intending to stiff whatever roommate he ended up with for the bill for the room, and had absolutely no remorse about skipping out on the dinner bill.

If you can't afford it, stay home, or raise the funds you will need. Don't show up and scam your way to a good time.

We discussed it, and between Budman, and the multiple mods who were there, this is not what we want the rallies or BARF to be about. We trust each other, we respect each other, we look out for each other. We ask for help, we give it and we take it because we know it all comes out in the wash and we will all be made whole in the end. What BB represents is not what we want associated with BARF.

I hope this serves as somewhat of an explanation. Anyone who wants to correct what I have said above or add to it, can do so if they wish.
