Bahía de los Ángeles, 2017 ...

Yes, you learn a bunch with 25 guys running around ...
proud of you guys out exploring the Green Door area,
that cowpath looked gnarly on a XR-L! :thumbup

Pozo Alemán

... we stopped at the neat ghost town of Pozo Alemán
on the way out and on the way back ... it is about
500 yards off the main road between El Arco and PSF,
about two miles east of El Arco on the main road ...

heading east the small graveyard is visible on your
left and you can see several of the buildings beyond
that if you are going slow enough ... :ride

I have some tracks for some cave painting. Perhaps they can help.

That would be fun ... :thumbup

Baja Bound makes it sound like
it's a mile off the main road,
eight miles from Rancho Piedra Blanca ...? :dunno

La Purisima

20170208-073001.jpg

... we stopped for lunch and barrel gas in
La Purisima ... I'd heard the river valley was beautiful ...
this little nature path is five minutes from the main road
and gives you the iconic view of the river and butte
in La Purisima ... there was a fancy tourist pic of the butte on a board in
our lunch spot and I pointed at it and our waiter assured me
it was a five minutes away and walked me a block
to the start of the nature path ... :laughing

... the nature path over the river ...
the river was full of little fish in the shade
under the plywood walkway ... :cool

The water crossing west of La Purisima to get to

Looks like a heck of a lumpy bed. :laughing

... we hunted quite a bit for
that spot, ha ... :rolleyes

super rocky up there,
but we found a place a couple hundred
feet from the road that had a bit of an old
fire ring and a rocky view promontory ...
the ground was soft so we could clear
the rocks and we both slept comfortably ... :party

I'll show up to BOLA early next time!

... yes, there was just no way I wanted to
try to ride that route from Mulege to Scorpion Bay
in one day ... : |

Price of Gas

... we stopped for lunch and barrel gas in La Purisima ...

The exchange rate is currently 1 dollar to 20 pesos. And there's 3.785 liters in gallon. So Pemex Gas (green) in El Rosario was 16.16 pesos/liter or $3.14/gallon. Barrel gas in La Purisima was 18 pesos/liter or $3.40/gallon. On the way back we paid. $3.19/gallon at Chevron in the US.

Darwin's exception
John -

So glad you and Kalle joined the trip this year. Loving your trip recap with pictures!

IMO, the route from San Javier to Comundu really captures what Baja once was to me. Simple, beautiful, and remote. So few places left in Baja like it. Aqua Verde is another area further south, and its on my bucket list before a paved road gets built. And to be treated with such a gem as Comundu after the remote trek..... well.... I dont know how you can beat that. :thumbup

Isnt the Purisma river valley fantastic? The next village up the valley to the east is still lost in time, San Isidro. Most small homes are roofed with thatch, and many the walls too. I brought a small group up the middle route from Bahia de Conception through Mtns to San Isidro and on through La Purisma this year. Spectacular view to the west coming down the Mtns into the Purisma river valley. We had lunch from our bags in the shade of the church in San Isidro.

Looks like you found the dirt road north from La Purisma across the river crossing. :teeth It wasnt that many years ago where it was the main route from the south to Scorpion Bay (San Juanico). We took the same crossing and route until we hit the pavement again... but chose not follow it. Crossed over it and the coastal dunes before turning north on the coast and riding up the beach the rest of the way to Scorpion Bay. Only in Baja.......

I'm a little blue being home and already thinking of next year. :ride

Thank you for the pics!

These pics are great you guys! Also you seem to capture stuff I haven't seen even though I've ridden through the same places. So awesome! :thumbup
