So another Cayucos run brought the first over nighter of the year. Down a back was about 450 miles for me and a good test for my old man wrist. It proved I am a bit weaker for sure... my wrist did OK, but my shoulder got sore from the lack of push ups and general use. Oh well.... Kernville awaits as the real test. Here are the past reports for our Cayucos runs.

It topped of a birthday week that started with the Lamont and Tonelli Dirty 30 Anniversary show featuring Sammy Hagar and Don Felder (Eagles fame).

So like before we launched from Butch's house and headed through the SJ hills past Metcalf Rd. where timing was perfect and we saw a dude railing a berm. I thought to myself.. bad ass. This is going to be a great day!! :banana

Uvas is damn full!! I was amazed at that... :wow
Really gorgeous!! Uvas is always fun rolling through the moderate hills and farms. The air was fresh and the mood was good!

Last couple of times we had little issues with the exact route once past Hecker Pass. So Butch hooked up his high tech GPS on his tank bag. Pic below. :teeth

We got a pretty clean run over the pass and it was our first twisties with some good pavement. The sun was shining so smiles were fully engaged as was my Flying Hun Fun meter.. showing nothing but red!

We turned and passed by Gizdich Ranch which made me think of Hun's pie rides.. :cool

No time for pie though and we continued to follow Butch as he rolled us through the farms. He kept us going straight on Coward Road (short cut to 129) and I know that you are a coward if you skip it and the pot holes from hell..:laughing

I did some fancy dancing to keep my CF wheels from feeling the pain.

A quick jaunt had us on Elkhorn Slough road and when we hit the drop off that is mostly invisible I knew it was coming so a quick blast of throttle had both wheels catching a little air.. :party

As we rolled by Castroville High School the weather went from sunny to cloudy as we approached HWY 1. It got chilly and the heated grips were turned on.

Our first gas stop in Carmel had us all throwing on more layers. It was about 12:30 and the plan was to stop in Big Sur for lunch. Of course we had to deal with the Tourist Mofo's wreaking havoc by the Bixby Bridge. One of which was blocking both lanes wondering where the hell to go.

Butch rev bombed him..:laughing He said it was the first time he ever did that.

We decided to give a different lunch place a try. The Road House. It is a cute spot right on the River. We had a good lunch on the back deck while the blue jays frolicked on the rails of the deck and in the trees around us. The water in the river was super clear and the Sun was back out. The food was good. Simple menu, but plenty of choices for the BAD Crew.

I looked at the weather ahead sunshine was not in the mix so we stayed layered up. We were leaving just as it closed - 2:30PM

Go Pro's mounted and ready to hit the coast...! Delightful.

The Fog was rolling in a bit and that just meant to be on alert for not perfect traction. My visor was not misting that bad so we still got to run a good pace as we ventured into the good stuff. Traffic was not to bad so we did not have long runs where we were slowed by the cagers.

The fun meter was almost pegged at that point and we rolled in a centipede of joy and were feeling THE FLOW.. I sure do love HWY 1. Once free of traffic we move into the more open spots of the ride where the DY is Advisory for the crew. Short bursts of real acceleration had us Burning Off the Carbon. Sweet!

The sun never did burn off but the misting fog disappeared and the roads were solid traction and fun.
There is still a one way with a light by the landslide and like all good sportbike riders we took the opportunity to cut in front of the line. :teeth

The Tunnel just past it is always a fun place to rev the motor... and get to hearing the song of fossil fuels being used correctly.

Getting further south you get another shot of real twisty shit as you are on the cliffs high above the ocean.
Ragged Point is always my marker to know that the road changes to serpentine beauty where the temptation to wick it up is managed with the thought of getting written up.

A quick stop to listen to the elephant seals fart, chill for a bit and start our final run to Cayucos. BTW... we missed ya Vicious Chill.

A much higher presence on this piece of asphalt past Hearst Castle and Cambria means chilling (mostly).

We landed in Cayucos at about 4pm and hit the motel to change and head to the bar to bench race the day away. The Cypress Tree is a quaint little spot with an awesome puppy Liberty. Careful or she will lick your face off. The are old school themed rooms with lots of old signs and such to twiddle your mind on.

Saturday night.

Part of the fun of being in a sleepy little town is the CASH ONLY Cayucos Card Room Saloon.

This little Cowboy Bar built in 1906 is a throw back and just plain fun. It is still a tourist town the the drinks are super cheap, but not bad either. The painted murals on the walls, the pool table, poker tables and dollar bills that line the ceiling are just part of what makes it fun. The other part is the company. :teeth

Good times boys!!

After a couple of bourbons with a beer throw back we sauntered across the street to Cafe Della Via and some wickedly awesome Italian Food. Reservation are recommended and only taken 24 hours in advance. They close the doors at 8PM so get there early or go hungry because you won't find any fast food in Cayucos to save your drunk ass if you miss your meal.

If you read the first report you will know we were blown away and ended up tipping the chef for a job well done. Crazy good. A few foody pics below.. only Butch's eggplant is missing because ... I don't like eggplant. Some hard LOL's when I told him I don't want a pic of that shit..:laughing

I guess I did take it. :teeth

After dinner we went back to the Saloon and hung for a while. Butch was the first to fall into a coma and he walked back to the motel.

Jonathon, Jay and I hung out for a while and then hung in our room laughing our asses off watching old Dave Chappelle episodes. We were talking about the Yoga pants thread... laughing too and then everytime we saw a pair we chuckles some more.. that is where I came up with the song title Yoga Pants and Leather. :p

A great day.

Saturday morning came pretty fast and the weather was similar to my head. Foggy. :nchantr

We stopped by the Saloon to snap some pics with us and the bikes before heading out of town. Since I was not thrilled with the breakfast joint downtown we decided to head to Cambria to gas and grub up.

Jay was not going to make the 10 or so mile ride to Cambria so he went to the one gas station there. It has the slowest pump in the world so after 10 minutes he had a gallon and pulled the plug. :laughing

We gas up at the Shell station in Cambria.. the only reason I mention it is because he got a fraud alert just as we were leaving breakfast for $105 bux from that station.. we stopped back by to make sure it was clear.

We went to Cambria, Mimosa's and Steak House for brekkie and it was solid. Jonathan got his fancy Mimosa and was really happy..:laughing

That will be a repeat for sure.

Then we sauntered out of town.. stopping just before Ragged Point to turn on the GoPro's. It was probably about 11AM and the roads were a little slimy so my spidy sense had me paying solid attention as conditions changed from turn to turn. After we got out of the twisty bits there are some places to pass that include being legal. :) We had some fun passing 5 CARS AT A TIME showing the Tourist Mofo's why riding a moto is such an advantage and so much fun.

Actually they were not all Mofo's. Many people gave us room and a couple visiting from South Africa took our photo after I offered to take theirs. The balance of the ride to back to Big Sur offered some awesome riding and very little traffic. Just awesome. Big Sur to Monterey with another gas stop in Carmel had more traffic than Friday so we were not so BAD.

And.. for the first time we hit everything right getting through Castroville and Watsonville. Not a missed turn.. way to go Butch! Your GPS ROCKS!

Hecker was not as clear either, but a solid pace behind a car who was actually driving was cool, but once over the hill... blah. Oh well still fun.

Back through Uvas etc... and we waved good bye to Butch at 680/280 and 101. Another brilliant overnighter.

It is so good to be BAD. :ride

Between Watsonville and Castroville the fragrances in the air were amazing. Flowers, Fruits, Vegitables, I dunno. It was cool.

Good times.

Thanks for taking us along by way of your ride report. Nothing better than riding with good long time friends. Everyone knows what the others are going to do, no surprises. :thumbup

Thanks DT and BEEF!

We had a funny conversation about lulu lemon on the way back at our last gas stop. Seems every time we saw a women in them we all looked at each other and laughed.

After seeing another example I had told 2wheelswideopen that I got a lulu lemon gift card for my wife and man I got all weird in that store and wanted out ASAP!.. He said his fiancee suggested he look around for men's stuff because they now have it.. and he said "Ain't no way I am wearing a lu lu logo" :rofl

I totally agreed being the manly man I am. :p

It was so nice to unplug to two days..
