Just wanted to let those of you that are competing in this years AMA at Infineon the new rule regarding participation in practice and/or racing before the event. This goes for all classes, Superbike, DSB, Super Sport and Harleys.

The new rule (as per the 2011 AMA rule book) basically states that any and all competitors wishing to do a trackday, race, or any on track event 30 days prior to the AMA event WILL be allowed to do so but NOT without a penalty.

The penalty pertains to qualifying. Should you qualify for the AMA race, (based on the time cut-off percentage) then your qualifying position, no matter how good will result in a BACK ROW starting position.:mad In other words, for instance, if you race in the upcoming Infineon AFM race, then show up to do AMA, go out and get pole for any of the classes then you're gonna start from the back row.:(

Only reason I'm bringing this up is that we we're planning on racing AFM prior to AMA but that is now out of the question for us. This may not matter to some of the folks that I see that have already signed up for AMA Infineon but I though I would just make some of you aware cause I missed it in the rule book. This does suck, especially for those competing for AFM class championships. I guess some of you guys and gals will have some decisions to make.

Obviously this idea doesn't work for the AFM'ers going for championships, but could Eleyna pull off on the last lap of her AFM races and still keep AMA eligibility?

read it carefully Ducky...ANY kinda of PRACTICE or race counts and will get them in trouble. ;-)

Trackdays are included in this rule is how I take it

AMA is a complete joke right now. Spectators have pretty much evaporated, the Daytona 148 was a joke laughing stock. Matt if you are smart, you would get her out of that series ASAP.

if any of you AFM folks want to race AMA weekend but don't want to deal with the BS check out the supermoto usa races up at the kart track. Pretty darn good purse for unlimited, and 250 pro! Dan did great a few years back and he didn't even bring the right bike!

Yep. Ten years ago AMA would PACK Sears Point. Now you can sit pretty much wherever you want and park easily. It's a shame really.

Ernie,

Not even ten years ago. Like FIVE years ago I remember going to an AMA race at Infineon and thinking "fuck I'm never coming back here until they fix this nightmare of parking" (always bitching about something, right?).. but the reality was, there was like 50000-100000 fucking people there and every single hill was packed from edge to edge with motorcycles.

To be fair though... even MotoGP at Laguna isn't as packed these days... but that said, AMA has certainly found a way (and apparently is trying to find more each year!) to make people stay-the-fuck-away.

FYI we spoke to Al. You CAN RACE AFM without issue. You will have to start at the back of the grid for AMA race thou, so ya it sucks but you can race AFM and do the AMA race no problems.

Hope that helps clarify for those like us doing both. Thanks

I'm guessing to keep Yosh from showing up a week early and renting the track? Just like F1's testing restrictions there are unintented consequences from an idea that has good intentions.

I only really see this as a conflict for Dave and Lenny, no? Wouldn't most AFM'ers be starting at the back of the pack anyways?
