I don't understand why celebs/sports stars feel the need to get into high risk businesses like restaurants.

Take 1/2 that 20 mil and put it in safe diversified investments. Presto, a stable financial future.

Most of them do it because somebody they trusted told them it was a good idea.

These guys should know that the secret to success in this country is:

a). Leak out a sex tape
b). Come up with 'cheap' over prized clothing line
c). Get arrested
d). Start your own reality TV show
e). Organize a fake wedding

Duh... :facepalm

When I was in San Diego a few years ago, I was at a shopping mall and I saw a restaurant- all boarded up. It looked like it had been a really fancy place. The name of the restaurant was Seau's.

I was just talking to chicky about leaking sex tape....it even made Screech a few bucks.
Lotsa football and basketball players come from un gated communities. Even show dogs will sometimes bite and shit all over themselves. It's engrained.
I met an ex pro NFL guy. He relatively sucked. Got his $7m over 7 years and bounced. Livin the good life in a normal house with a normal BMW listening to his Merryl Lynch guy.

I had a friend that worked at a VW dealership and he said "a former 49ers STAR player (from the 80's) came in to buy a VW Jetta for his Daughter-- his credit was too poor to qualify him for the loan"!!

I have an acquaintance who's a former starter for the San Diego Chargers. I don't see too much of him these days except when he's peddling his beat 80's ten speed bike to the liquor store. He'll be dead of alcoholism in time.

We tried to help, he didn't want it.

This may be the worst of all...still pending:

"The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is investigating whether HRJ Capital LLC., a defunct investment firm run by former members of the San Francisco 49ers football team, misled investors as it struggled to stay solvent in 2008, according to four people with direct knowledge of the probe.

HRJ, co-founded by Hall of Fame safety Ronnie Lott and All- Pro lineman Harris Barton in 1998, operated funds of funds. The Woodside, California-based firm invested $2.8 billion in venture capital and leveraged buyout funds for public pension systems and star athletes such as Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning."

Dorothy Hamill? REALLY?

She didn't waste her money on cars and drugs. She bought the Ice Capades traveling show and I was under the impression it did well for a while but was likely crushed by Disney on Ice or something similar.

I'm surprised Andre Rison isn't on the list. He may not have lost as much money as the others but he went through several million in a very short time. Anyone remember Jack Clark who burned through something like seven million in less than two years on exotic cars and an NHRA Funny Car team?

:laughing All the hot girls in my sixth grade class had that hair cut.

Yeah, but Dorothy had those THIGHS! :thumbup

Kareem went broke as well, his business manager stole millions from him and a couple of other big name NBAers in the 80's.

Seau's is still very much open in San Diego. Maybe they relocated from the original location and that's what you saw.

Many time's a sports figure/celebrity will have a restaurant named after them, but they dont really own the place. They may have invested something into the place, but they dont run it, and they only profit on their name being on the restaurant. I dont know if that is the case with Seau's, but I know of many celebrities who didnt own nor run the restaurant that was named after them.
