I have a theory that people who ride motorcycles are like people who fly airplanes.I am going to guess that we are superstitious.

Yes, but only about certain things. A lifetime of playing baseball made me the monster I am.

When Matt Cain threw his perfect game, I started the game by sitting on the couch and eating a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios. I didn’t stop eating Cheerios until the final out. I went through almost 2 complete boxes in ~3 hours.

I always shower and get dressed in the same order. Check my bike before going on track in the same order. Always have to have certain things with me while at work.

If those things don’t happen because of a brain fart, I either start over and do it right or feel anxious if I can’t do it the same way.

I flew planes and ride a motorcycle.

A superstition is "a belief or practice resulting from ignorance, fear of the unknown, trust in magic or chance, or a false conception of causation" or "an irrational abject attitude of mind toward the supernatural, nature, or God resulting from superstition." -Wikipedia

If I get a bad feeling when I'm about to go for a ride, I take the car instead.

I learned long ago to trust my instincts.

I'm not superstitious, but I might seem that way from observation. I have a lot of anxiety and I'm pretty scatterbrained and forgetful, perhaps from undiagnosed ADHD.

As a result, when I'm preparing for a complex or dangerous task, I go over a mental checklist in the exact same order before I commit to the task. If I get distracted in the middle of the checklist, I will begin again from the top.

Superstition is preserved and fostered by fear and for a rider or a pilot fear smells...

Whatever that means
Meh, I guess since i have the "don't go out for your last session" on track days and dirt riding rule. It's not related to ghosts or anything, just when i think you're most likely to make mistakes.

Here's some:

I won't ride unless I have a rubber band or hair band around my left hand-grip. Not sure how I picked that one up. Right now, it's an 0-ring.

I think I might have picked it up from when I had long hair, come to think of it.

Whenever I get a new vehicle (or "new to me") I spray WD-40 on the linkage of the carb or injectors. I told someone once that it was "magic spray."

I avoid minivans. But I think that's more just common sense.

I will ride in heavy rain, or dry weather (but not light rain) - but again, probably common sense.

I never wash my bike. I only wipe it down. My fear is that if I wash it, it will break.

Holy shit, I am more fucked up than I thought.

BUT - still alive, LOL.

My dad's pre-flight was just the normal. I picked up some stuff from that - like making sure the throttle doesn't stick, making sure the controls all work, etc. . . Those are more along the lines of ritual.

hes corrrect tho.

Maybe but someone else who isn't a narcissistic assclown has said the same thing and they would be better to quote.

The quote was intended for him and him only. Talking to himself.
