I understand the concern but at the same time I've seen some crazy stuff out there. The most extreme example (so far) was the cashier at my favorite sandwich shop up here in Santa Rosa. Several days ago and well before the shelter in place order I stopped in to get my "usual". The place was as slammed as it normally is and had their regular army of well positioned employees cranking out sandwiches as fast as possible. All were wearing gloves and a few had paper face masks. The cashier was the exception. He was wearing gloves, face mask, a full apron and a clear plastic face shield resembling a spit mask or the protection I use while grinding metal. I'm not being critical of him. Honestly, I get it. The poor guy is confronted with a new set of contagious unknowns every 90 seconds. Still, the looks on the customers faces while he handed them their food was interesting. I'm not convinced everyone ate the food they had just received. The visual he presented clearly spooked some customers, to say the least.
Fast forward a few days and global and local conditions continue to deteriorate. Personally, I've been approaching this in the same manner I dress for a ride. If I'm going out for a low risk cruise around the back-roads or dirt trails I dress accordingly. If I know I'm going to push it I don't hesitate to use my back protector (street) or my Leatt brace (dirt). While I have yet to don my grinding mask and apron I do have wipes in my car and truck. I'm pretty quick to wipe my hands and anything else I come in contact with while getting gas or groceries. Latex gloves and paper masks are patiently waiting in the glove box(s) in the event things continue to ramp-up.
What are you doing, if anything, to keep yourself and your family safe while out there running "essential" errands?
