Are "wings" the next big thing on motorcycles?

Wow, that bike is so trick, no doubt! :thumbup

However, unless you plan on mostly using it for track daze, the winglets are just bling on the street.

Ugh, a 5mph drop will cost multiple $1Ks

Wait until someone tips over a Nikken.

On the bling thing, no much different than the fancy exhausts, specially made up brackets and stuff seen on lots of bikes. At least this one should be able to back up it's talk.:teeth

Of course street bike need wings.

So much time spent over 100mph and at max braking it only makes sense.

Only needed on an Aprilia.
15 years ago those things were hitting 205, can't imagine what top speed a modern day one is capable of.

When i did an aprilia trackday at chuckwalla, they had this bike on display. it looks awesome in person. I totally would buy one if i hated money.

Reminds me of Millrace's thread years ago. He bragged about going 200 on on Ape Mille and was soundly ridiculed.

It reminds me of the same Aprilia that's been out since 2009? 2010? With a wing strapped to the side.

That's because it is. I think the engine was retweaked in 2015 and retweaked now (as well as punched out to 1100cc). There have been periodic electronic and geometry adjustments as well.

I imagine there will be a complete design sooner than later with the drop of the Panigale V4.

Weren’t the Moto GP bikes doing something similar years ago?
All of the current MotoGP bikes have wings. As I understand it, the number one reason they're on there is to allow harder acceleration once they're going fast without the front wheel coming up. But you have to be in the 2-point ticket range and accelerating hard for it to make a difference. A secondary benefit is a little more front wheel traction in high speed turns.

On the street I don't see them being of any benefit at all. Kind of like the rear spoiler on my Mustang convertible. Looks good but does nothing at all to improve performance in any way.
