Are we going to raise our taxes?

Gov Moonbeam has grown up a little, at least IMO.

We have us a full blown fiscal poo fest. We must cut deep down to the bone or raise taxes. He is asking us if we will accept all these cuts or accept an increase (short term is a myth) in taxes as best I can tell.

I'm down for kickin in as long as I can see continued efforts to get our massive debt load under control. Eat the rich is also something I am willing to consider.

It's got to be both. Whenever politicians talk about "cutting the waste" what really ends up happening is slashing education and social services. The advisory boards, junkets, redundant panels and departments ad nauseam never go away.

I would rather my SSI contribution went to California's education budget. Eff those old, country-ruining boomers, I'm not going to see any of it anyway so I'd rather opt out of that Ponzi scheme.

saw today that 760 new laws are coming into effect for 2012. while im sure its possible that a few of them will save the state $$, there is no way that as a whole things will get less expensive. why bother passing new laws if its just going to make the debt problem worse?

The higher the paper clog is stacked the easier it is to slip shit under the radar?

760 new laws is 760 to the power of 10 pages of distracting gibberish and backdoor lovin.

Raise taxes on anyone watching reality TV.... I am down for that.

How many f@cking housewives shows are steering our yute to good American values..

I have no idea.. but I just shake my head when I see them recorded at my home by my daughters.

I think the tax deal is going to have to be done.. the :bs about it being temporary is well :bs Like laws very few end up going away. I think Brown has taken a pretty good shot at the Gubment $$ waste.. and I am sure their is more to be had.. but I also don't think that will be enough.

Seems like 2012 economy is finally heading in the right direction.. may not be moving quick.. but home sales are up.. jobs are up.. so.. taxes are next eh?

I have no problem with paying more taxes if there is true Pension Reform in California.

Nobody should be able to get more than 50% of highest years' pay.

The fact that some get more than double that, (and will continue to do so, no matter what the "reforms" implemented), chaps my ass...but to hand this debt off to our kids without sucking it up now would be a travesty.

Hell, do away with the pension spiking via OT and vacation cashouts and I would be happy.

When I realize that for every 10 I spend I pay 1 in tax, it makes me angry. When I realize that I made 100 but paid 35 back in taxes I get pissed.

the current system is broken. i have no faith politicians have the guts, the will or the strength to do the right thing.

any "solution" will be a bandaid on a terminal cancer.
the job of the politicians is to manipulate the constituent sheep by promising the bandaid will fix the terminal cancer. our job as sheep is to believe these promises.

this is what i'd like to see:
1. cut public programs to bare minimums
2. reduce taxes to reflect 1)
3. rebuild non-essential public programs slowly and judiciously

i'm for cities filing bankruptcy/receivership. fire all public employees; rehire the best of them back at reasonable compensation. this will be a decent fresh start. there are good employees, but a lot of them shouldn't even be working at mc donalds - these people need to go, let alone getting paid their current high salary/compensation.

this will never happen.

The definition of "bare minimum" will never be a common meeting ground.

When I look at the state of our public Ed. and University system I think we have gone to far already.

Shoulda, woulda and coulda. Now we gotta IMO.

this will never happen.

It will never happen in a concerted and organized fashion, but as long as you deprive the beast of new revenue opportunities and current streams remain tight, effectively we will see downsizing in the government's size and scope.

There will be collateral damage and certain retarded appendages will not get pruned as they should, but overall constituents expect certain services from their government (safety, infrastructure, a legal system, etc) and if the government is left to fight for table scraps, they'll figure out a way to keep providing these services while cutting out the bloat.
