So, maybe this is dumb question. Buddy interested in this bike used.
Aprilia Tuono Factory 1100. A previous owner had installed an Akra pipe with deleted cat. However, never had the map for pipe installed.
He felt bike ran fine.

Akrapovich says they designed pipe to run with stock map and no biggie. Will lack of race map cause lean condition that will eventually destroy the motor?

What say the hive? Dude afraid to drop 10G on a potential grenade.:laughing

Thanks barf!:thumbup

Edit: to clarify: buddy would get race map and load it right away. His concern is that the bike has taken damage from the miles it has had on it with no map.

If Akra says it will be fine I'd tend to believe them. If he's still worried, take it to a dyno with an AFR gauge. Put concerns to rest.

Can you explain to a luddite exactly what this means?

edit: His concern is for damage that may already be done. Will this show if it does have damage?

I'd imagine AFR Gauge means Air Fuel Ratio Gauge.

You'd be able to put the motor under stress and see if it's running too rich/lean or just right.

Edit: also, the tuno, IIRC, is known for being very reliable with a bullet-ish proof engine. Not your typical Ital.

Hey Brown have your buddy check out the Aprilia forums, I will specifically link to the Tuono section. There is a good amount of very helpful information on this sight and it should help your bud out in making a purchasing decision. I'm on my second Tuono now but I can't give advise about the exhaust since mine is still stock, here is the link.

By the way how have you been?

I neither think of tuonos as being grenades, nor do I ever worry about akrapovic exhausts. Akrapovic is maybe the only brand (AFAIK) that claims to tune their exhausts to stock fuelling.

I have always been curious if anyone has ever done a full exhaust and checked for Air to fuel ratios before and after. I couldn't find any actually YouTube videos in this subject.

My coworker put a akro on his fz09 and removed the cat also. Curious to see how many miles he puts on the bike like that.

As DJNick stated this topic is extensively covered on the AF1 Aprilia Tuono forum....and based on the extensive forum regarding slip on exhaust for Tuono's you need the Aprilia race map or an Exhaust specific MAP for optimal fueling. The Aprilia race map is specifically designed for the non cat Akra exhaust....but they are $$$

Thanks. I’ve been really well. Living in NC. Just back into riding.

Probably will be fine, when is the last time you heard/seen any bike grenade because of an aftermarket exhaust? I'm sure any big name exhaust manufacturer goes through a series of QC tests to prevent liability issues.

Not my experience on my 2013.
I ran a pipe with race ecu for a while and decided the stock pipe was loud enough.
Went back to standard ecu and pipe and really didn't notice and change in fueling. Just quitter and a bit less power at top of rev range.

Pop Rocks and Soda will make your stomach explode... Whammy cant imagine an aftermarket exhaust will grenade an engine.
unless it requires a Mandatory remapping :wtf

Most fuel injected bikes will automatically adjust for any exhaust system except the most radical. And if it’s a street exhaust, it’s not all that radical.

Thanks for your thoughts and opinions y'all.

He passed on bike and is looking at another. Personally, I would not have been worried.
