yeah those 100 mile oil change intervals and racebike rebuild schedules would make for an awesome commuter:laughing

the sxv is not a commute bike....

it's a street legal race bike and not designed to keep constant revs..

better off getting a DRZ or an LC8/Duke ...:cool

on the same note: the first year , 2007, the SXV's were available, dealers couldn't register the bike so they told the customer that they can go to DMV and have it licensed and registered..

the outcome was that some people got their plates yanked and were stuck with the bike and the dealers won't take the bike back even though they knew this could happen...

if the dealer tells ya to go to the DMV, walk away cuz it could be a headache and disappointment later...

g'lucks..

motards are not good commuters. they were not meant to be on the freeway. they do make excellent city bikes though

I'll tell you though....those aprilia sxv's are way fucking cool. Good commute bike or not, if I had the cash, I'd buy one of those in a heartbeat.

Not a good commuter bike....Designed for racing...small tank, hard seat, I love mine but its high maitanance, but no other motard comes close to performance.... For commuter I would get a Husky or DRZ..for backroad luneacy on weekends get the SXV...

The SXV has an engine life measured in hours, not miles, so that gives you a good hint as to it's true purpose. If you want a commuter bike, get an r1200r.

I was at Scuderia yesterday...that's precisely what I overheard a salesman tell a potential buyer. :laughing

Aprilia SXV's are like dating a supermodel. How long can you make it last? :twofinger Beautiful bike, great engineering but service intensive.

There are a small number of other SM bikes that are equal to or exceed the SXV in low weight and performance numbers. Keep in mind that all of these bikes are race track oriented with small fuel tanks, minimal creature comforts and frequent service intervals. Awesome for urban assault or track days but not so great for regular +30 mile distance commutes. License plates are something you have to discuss with the dealer, no guarantees, don't be fooled. Bikes marked with a * require conversion $$$ from dirt to SM setup.

KTM 450SMR & 560SMR, Husqvarna SMR510 & SMR630, Husaberg FS550E & FS650E, TM SMM450 & SMM530, Honda *CRF450R, Suzuki DRZ400SM & *RMZ450, Yamaha *WR450, Kawasaki *KLX450.

690sm > sxv for daily rider
on a ktm a maintenance schedule is more of a sportsbike than track SM

Stupid fun on nasty tight bumpy roads. Great city bikes. Not so fun on the freeway. Not much in the way of luggage.

But they're very hip right now, so if that's what you're aiming for, go for it!

(I still prefer to commute on the FZ6.)

I have an '01 rsv mille, I ride 120 + miles a day, I've got 40,000 miles on it. I've owned it from the beginning. I've tracked it twice. And someone said they last by the hours not the miles, bull. This guy I meet at a dealer had 73,000 or 74,000 miles on his SXV... I think he said he had an '05 or something, not sure, years may be different. as for high maintenance, the only thing i've had gone bad, is the starter solenoid at 25,000 miles. I still have the original battery with no issue, and I do a 120+ mile commute, everyday. yes it's a trackbike, it's also an awesome commuter. I get great attention from people who don't even know what it is, street guys and harleys. If you keep it around 80mph, my tank low fuel light comes on at 165 miles. of coarse your not looking into an RSV Mille, you want an sxv. check this forum out that is nothing but sxv talk. http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=50
go with aprilia, I've owned 3, never had any regrets.
