I often see the aprilia caponord for sale for a very good price and they usually have very low mies , This may be why ? :cry

My Aprilia story,

I bought a brand new Aprilia caponord 1200 with the legal 2 year full factory warranty from an official aprilia/guzzi dealer.
(this was my only happy moment in this story)
After about a week i contacted the dealer because my bike was burning oil. I noticed some blue smoke and stank while i was riding -> jup your reading this correct while riding.

At 300km on the clock's i noticed the oillevel was below the min-marking.
I contacted the dealer who said that this was quit normal and that most bikes use some oil when they are been ridden/running in.
My respons was: sure a little bit but never had one smoking blue!
Dealer: just come collect some oil and add it.

So i added the oil as specified by aprilia, no overfilling.
350km later my bike went into alarm -> not enough oil pressure!
Checking the sightglass there was almost no oil visible.
Therefore i contacted my dealer again.
His respons: no worries bring it in and i will put other oil in the bike to solve the problem.
Sadley 300 a 350km further same shit happend again.
So i contacted the dealer again: no worries it is normal they drink up to 1l a 1000km's.
Never ever had this on any bike!
I can't ride a gastank without stopping to add oil?

Now i decided to contact aprilia directly. They said i couldn't determine oil consumption and thats up to your dealer.
When i asked what they consider normal oil-use -> moment of silence -> no answer.
I contacted my dealer again to say i find it to much oil consumption, suddenly there was an recall for placing a cartervent.
Checked on chasisnr, no recalls for your bike.

Ventilation was added, now the oil disappeared even faster.

Contacted dealer who on his behalve contacted Aprilia.
Said Aprilia would sent stuff directly from Italy, wow.
3 weeks later, oiladditif with a sealing function! Arrived at dealer.

Damn straight I said no!

This is not a fix.

End result they would inspect my engine and if necessary rebuild it.
Would take 2 max 3 weeks.

To make the story shorter, it almost took 10 weeks!

Dealer said he would replace cilinders and pistons in the end only the pistons and piston rings were replaced.

Asked dealer to make a testride as he had no intension off doing so.
Went to dealer to take bike home to find out, no testride made as shiftpedal not accessible.

On the way home the bike stalled several times and sudden powerloss.
Thats not the worst, at some point when releasing throttle the bike kept riding!

Nearly had an accident and could have cost me my life!

Contacting dealer proves to be pointless as he knows my number and hasn't answered it in more than a month!

Got the bike back with the engine, frame, swingarm and exhaust scratched!
To make things worse bike lost coolant.

The next day, bike began to smoke, no power, engine develloped a tapping sound and oil running from engine and frame!

Asked my money back from dealer, nope we made no contractual faults.

They refused to replace bike by a other new bike.

Bike had 1750km in more than 5 months!
Bike had been almost half off the time in repair with dealer!

Contacted Aprilia/Piaggio in the hope they would help me out.
They would help to find a solution, but non have been offered.

They said they understood that i had to take a other path, meaning me taking my dealer to court.
I kept in contact with Aprilia in the hope to find a solution as they where analysing my case.

They did not help me out and certainly didn't offer a solution!

Sad but Aprilia is the worst motorcycle experience i ever had.

Service seems to be non existent.
Something to think about!

Who else had such a bad experience with a Caponord 1200 or Aprilia/Piaggio in general?

I'm a passionat motorcyclist and i owend many motorcycles (bmw, kawasaki, honda, harley davidson, indian, suzuki,...).
Now it realy hurts my heart to know that company's like aprilia can sell motorcycles without any passion!

Hooray for Aprilia, sarcasm!

The agony continues.

Zoinks! I have a 2016 Dorsoduro 750, 7500 miles no mechanical issues.
One warranty claim for a O ring oil seal on a sensor.
Dealer took it in and handled it with out question.

EDIT didnt realize this wasnt the OP.
I feel for the guy who has this headache.

I was told by San Jose BMW (who used to also be an Aprillia dealer) that they dropped Aprillia due to thier poor dealer support. It was almost impossible for SJBMW to get parts or warranty authorization from Aprillia. This is the main reason I did not buy the Caponord when I was looking to buy a new bike.

Spirit has been good so far (knock on wood) to get my warped tank replaced under warranty with Aprilia very quickly. AF1 in Texas I hear is amazing as Aprilia dealer too.

Dealer and country support probably varies significantly. Based on things being in “km”, most likely this was in Canada or abroad somewhere. We are lucky that we have so many Aprilia dealers in the Bay Area.

That's interesting and all, but why was his caponord burning oil? Without knowing that it's hard to tell if it's something that should've been recalled or just a lemon.

Aprilia is definitely a smaller operation than BMW and Ducati. Im not really surprised they have communication and distribution setbacks. I will say you dont really care about those things when it comes to used bikes because your distribution is eBay and AF1, and so far every part i've had to buy has been easy to source and prices have been reasonable. The bikes are cheap. THe parts are cheap. IMHO their reliability is in the same ballpark as Honda, and they're pretty hassle-free to unbolt and bolt back together. They're definitely bikes I have no problem recommending to people with lower levels of mechanical skill.

I had more than 30,000 on my 2nd gen Tuono and 7500 on the Capo 1200 and the only problem I've had was a fuel sensor replaced under warranty on the Capo. I would have kept the Tuono till it dropped but I could never get more than 100 miles before fuel got low and that doesn't cut it out in eastern Oregon.

ape has serious issues with parts availability/dealer support

when the 2012 v4 came out we had issues up and down with burnt stators, ape kept updating things with no dealer knowledge.

Ultimately the forum provided enough information for the customer to go to the dealer and double check the part # that was stamped on the stator to verify it was the "new updated part"

The dealers had no clue at all - multiple times people got the same old version stator and burnt up again on the recall...

Thats why I am so mad that ape dumps so much $$$ into MotoGP racing and places dead last, while leaving WSBK and dealer support in the background

My 2009 Shiver had a problem at 1000 miles that left me stranded in Ely, Nevada, but its been great since then. It now has 20,000 miles. Scuderia fixed it under waranty and paid for the U Haul and gas to get back. They are a good dealer.

Not as fast as I look.
I don't understand presenting this story like it happened to the o.p. There is no link to the original story. Yes, I see the date from ADV. It is not a verifiable story and did not happen locally. In fact, as mentioned, it probably did not happen in the United States. What is the point here?
