Congrats on the finish!
Looks like you had good conditions with the rain, too bad about sutro canyon, I hear that is one of the signature portions of the race.
Putting this on my calendar for next year...

Unfortunately there was a fatal crash on Saturday. Before the start of the Sunday race they spoke about Robin and there was a moment of silence. There is another thread on BARF with a link to the news story:

I got there late Saturday but I spoke to a few people who raced and there was a bit of snow and some wet spots on the course. There was plenty of mud in the pits. I believe that was the reasoning for not running Sutro this year. By Sunday everything had dried up and there were a couple of dusty sections.

The road sections were a lot of fun. They had a speed sign and my fastest was 68 mph on the tarmac. There was plenty of rocks through out the course! Think PC with a bunch of elevation change.

Once my friend hosts his Gopro footage I will post a link.

Yeah what the video did not capture was moments before he was doing burn outs. I assume to get the tires sticky but it looked like it just made them greasy. It appears the crash on the first corner technique is pretty common during the VCGP.

The video did not show how crowded it really was on the first lap. My friend in the video was on pace for 4 laps until he got a flat. So I think he was able to distance himself a bit. I was slower and ended up in a couple of decent size bottlenecks.

Moab on my mind
love the hill pass at 4:37

Glad to see you finally getting out into the shit to pass at 12:40ish

Can't believe you got it slowed down to make the turn at 14:30, looked like you were going off

I'm planning on riding this event again this year. It was a ton of fun! Unfortunately it overlaps with a D36 enduro.

It depends if you are fast enough to get a chance at the 4th lap but somewhere between 3 or 4 hours.

Overall I would say it was a moderate course but we did not do Sutro canyon which is suppose to be the most difficult section do to the rocks.

I forgot to mention, you can pit after each lap if you like. This gives you time to get gas and water. Don't think of it as a race but more of a guided trail ride with 300 of your closest friends.
They were a lot of great moments but when the super senior passed me on his 1970's husky like I was standing still will be hard to forget.
