Anyone ridden the Africa Twin Adventure Sport? What do you think?

I've been eyeing the new Africa Twin ever since it was announced, hoping for that winning lottery ticket or misplaced suitcase full of money.

And then they went and made it even better. I'm curious what you think of the Adventure Sport trim, and if it's worth the extra cashola.

Honda’s 2018 Africa Twin Adventure Sports On The Road In Europe
Sneak a first-ride peek at Honda’s more serious ADV

"A 1.4-gallon larger fuel tank brings capacity to 6.4 gallons ..."

... better range is always worth extra cashola!

... $2K premium ... I know, not what you asked ... :loser:party

Everything sounds good to me except the 533 pound weight. That's about 50 pounds too much.

Anybody know when they'll be available in the USA?

I've got the 2017 AT. It's an awesome bike but small gas tank. Otherwise everything else can be added via aftermarket.

Looking forward to the responses. I considered replacing the VStrom with one(still kinda think about it). In the end decided a 5k paid off bike with $103 dollar a year insurance was better for me than a bike payment and $80 a month insurance(would have to have full coverage).

Wish they put CC on it.

The Africa Twin tugs at my heartstrings more than most two wheel steeds, but the reality of my age and capabilities tells me my trusty 60k miles Valkyrie is safe in the garage.

Oogled it at uswsbk its nice but my biggest fear of ridding one offroad is if I could pick it up if I dropped it. More gas = more weight.

That's definitely the only real downside, as far as I can tell. I spent a while riding a KLR, some of it on gnarly offroad, and even that felt a bit too heavy. It's a full 100 lbs lighter than the Africa Twin :rofl

If the Africa Twin is as clumsy as a KLR off road, I don't want one. :x

I just called the local dealer to see if they had an Africa Twin Adventure Sport in stock and they do. But it looks like I might be able to get a KTM 1090 Adventure R for at least $2000 less, in which case the Honda would lose out for sure. I know exactly what I would be getting with the KTM.

Just like the regular AT, the ATAS is a pig. An extra 1.4 gallons of fuel doesn't make it weigh any less, either. There's a good argument that the Adventure Sports trim is to the AT as the Rally trim is to the CRF250L: higher seat, more suspension travel, more fuel capacity, taller windscreen. If you want those things then that's the trim you want. If you don't want them then it's just a motorcycle that's too tall for you.

To be fair the KLR is a dinosaur and less than half the price of the Africa Twin :afm199

I love my 2017 Africa Twin. Rides super light and the slim footprint makes splitting a breeze. The engine is superb as is the awesome DCT transmission. The Adventure Sport is tall as heck so vertically challenged bikers better be very skilled!

They had half a dozen of them at the cycle World highpipe at China peak. Sign in and take one out for 20 minutes on pavement and dirt. Remarkable. It’s a big machine, not for beginners but it felt pretty capable. It just depends on what you want from a bike. I’m pretty sure it would be stone reliable. I want one!
