Greetings all!

With all of the OG's in the hizzy here, want to ping all you squeaky tin men for anyone who can recommend a top notch solid clavicle surgeon :ninjaryde you've had (or amigo etc) a good experience with?
A dear friend broke it pretty badly @T-Hill, and wants to make sure he does not set off airport alarms forever, or have a sailors knot :ape

Thank you mucho!!

Collarbones often don't require much more than immobilization after an initial re-alignment. If it's broken, then they'll likely use some hardware to help it stay put while it heals.

Yes Ting has an office right next to the Kaiser hospital in Fremont. He did an ACL replacement for me almost 30 years ago & use to have an amazing collection of helmets from the many riders he has worked on. He was a 49'r, Team Yamaha & Nickey Hayden's doctor.

The guy who did mine is in Santa Rosa at Kaiser but I’m pleased with the the outcome. His name is Carlos Sandoval MD.

I had Dr. Ting a few years ago for my finger when I ripped the tendon. I tried using insurance but my insurance denied the claim. (Google him and you'll find out why.) Ended up costing me a few grand just for him to look at me a few times and prescribe the needed physio (which insurance did pay for). I'd imagine if your friend wants it plated it would be pretty expensive (and also, he should have it done ASAP before the bones start to set and they have to re-break things).

That said, I was really happy with him and his team. One of his guys even drove from Fremont to my house in San Jose and dropped off a bunch of splints because they couldn't find one that fit properly when I came in for my appointment.

That said, he wasn't too interested in my injury (frankly, it was pretty boring) and I wasn't that impressed with him until I said the magic words: "How quickly can you get me back on my bike? I'm racing and I've got sponsors I want to keep happy." That was like a switch and all of a sudden he paid a lot more attention and was much better about explaining things and answering my questions rather then trying to get out of the room and on to his next patient.

Dr King in the Palo Alto Medical group in PA is very good. He was a partner with Dr. Ting, was the Sharks Ortho, and is the Raiders Dr. He has several thank you pics from Moto GP stars and pro athletes. He has seen it all. My Collarbone was broken into 5 places and with 9 screws and a plate - it was done.
A no BS guy.

Dr. Akira Yamamoto did both my clavicles and has helped with follow ups on my 10yr old knee surgery.

Highly recommend him as he is very patient and knowledgable. Explains things, pro con, risk, reward very clearly and plainly. Even grudgingly accepts that i will not stop racing. lol

Office is off el-camino at palo alto medical foundation, and surgery is done at el camino real hospital.

Dr. Gordon Lundy - I can personally vouch for his clavicle expertise. He turned the explosion of collarbone shards I had back into a perfectly formed collarbone, even using dissolving suture to lash the tinier pieces together against the titanium plate.

The office is geared toward more geriatric services it seems (i.e. hip/knee replacements) but he wasn't phased at all and did a top-notch job.

Office and surgery site both in SF.
