In this regard it may help to study the evolution and philosophy of morality. It's easy to see how a species would reject cannibalism, but not so easy re preying on other species. Perhaps humans think too much.

My wife went veggie years after we married. It's not as much fun to cook for her as it used to be.

OMG dude - you DO NOT want to get me started on the moral arguments around eating (or not) another living being. i mentioned in another thread that my SO’s major was fire science - mine was philosophy. it’s an age old question in many incarnations - ‘from death comes life’ and all that implies.

like i said - won’t get started. said what i meant - would be happy if our meat consumption were reduced. and for the record, i am not vegan or vegetarian.

I am really having difficulties understanding why so much people are speaking about this and making it like it was a huge deal.

Yeah, meat shortage, so what ?

I'm not a vegan and I enjoy eating meat, but I can totally cope with a few months of less meat. Like everyone else.

I would be much more concerned with news such as the one about US military refusing anyone who has been diagnoses with COVID-19. Do they know something we don't about the long term health effects ?

Go support the FFA high school students and, since the live auction at the Sacramento fair was cancelled due to the virus, you can register for the online auction in a couple of weeks: https://sacfair.com/index.html

They have a Facebook group (Friends of Sac County Fair) where they'll pair you up with other buyers if you can't buy a whole animal, or you can create your own barf group to share an animal.

Contact your local 4H or FFA and see about purchasing someone's animal.
Thousands of kids bought and raised pigs and goats and steer to show and sell this summer and they have no avenue to recoup their investments other than private sales.

The pretty thing's family is deep in the CCC fair and we occasionally go in on a pig or steer and will definitely be doing it this year.
Damn good meat, support your local kids and butchers, stick it to the global hierarchy. Win win.

we were in a similar situation - not new home, but situating the garage to make room for a freezer (our kitchen one was bursting at the seams). timing bad for us as well - we ordered one on a wednesday, and it was supposed to be delivered the following saturday (this was mid january). saturday came and went - and multiple scheduled and cancelled deliveries followed. all subsequent communication was direct from the factory (advising of estimated delivery based on when the unit was being built). finally received it last monday. being pissed at the delay a month ago i tried to order a different model and earliest delivery they estimated was late july for the high end (super expensive) models, and september for the reasonabaly priced ones.

I have an extra chest freezer that I would love to sell. I used it as a kegerator, so it is slightly modified, but everything is temporary and it would take about ten minutes to make it normal. It's a pretty big chest freezer, I can go measure if you guys are interested.
