Anyone interested in....

Groveland, where's that?
Greetings everyone,

The widow of a fellow LEO has asked me to help sell, or provide some guidance to selling her late husbands Harley.

Before we start banging away on the anti Harley crowd someone might be interested in this bike...

So, here's what we know:

It's a 1969 Harley Davidson Street Glide with a shovel head motor. The bike is currently registered in Arizona and I think due to a DMV mistake, its registered at a 1971, but that can be easily fixed once we check with Harley on the vin number.

As far as we know, the bike hasn't been ridden since California passed its helmet law.

It's a kick starter bike, and has some cool factor, just way beyond by skill level for bringing it back to life.

Options:

Someone buys as is now and she gets it out of the garage.
She spends the money and brings it back to life, and then sells it.

Thoughts?

Interesting. I expect that will be a project for someone, and they will want to choose for themselves what's done and how. But couldn't hurt to get an estimate for fixing it up.

It's a '69!
If that doesn't deliver boat loads of cool factor, I don't know what does.
I don't have the time or space but that looks like a pretty complete project to start from. (I have started with far less)
A very doable good result in the hands of the right person.

I went to NADA to what it might be worth, but I don't see a Street Glide. They list the following for 1969...

ERS SPRINT SCRAMBLER 350cc
FLB 74ci
FLFB 74ci
FLHB 74ci
FLHFB 74ci
GE 45ci SERVI CAR
M-125 RAPIDO 125cc
M-65 65cc
M-65 SPORT 65cc
ML-125 RAPIDO 125cc
SS SPRINT 350cc
XLCH SPORTSTER 55ci
XLH SPORTSTER 55ci
XLRTT 55ci

No such thing as a 1969 Street Glide. I'm guessing that it may not be a 1969. A 1971 (as it's registered) would make more sense as they had the FX-1200 Dyna then. It's got enough aftermarket stuff on it that identifying it is a bit more difficult, those pictures don't help much either. It's got the narrow FX style forks on it as well.

It'd probably be better to sell it as is. If it's been sitting for that long having a shop fix it up won't be cheap. There's a good chance a dealer won't touch it. I know that we won't work on bikes that are that old.

Pretty sure this is the same gal who lives up the street from me. (she has like a cx500 too right?) I've seen the bike in person, it wasn't that bad at all.

Okay..... so, it appears that this bike is a 1971 Harley-Davidson Super Glide, according to the paperwork she has....

Sell as is. No brainer.

restoration is a money pit and could easily be double the estimate, especially of its really been sitting that long

I was going to chime in, but as noted, it's a Super Glide. If it is a 71, it's far from stock.
I'm not personally in a place to buy it, but I will ask around. Shovelheads are kind of in the tank value wise, but if the stock bits are around that will add to the value a lot.
