anyone heard of Rubber Side Down gear?

While searching for replacement gear for what the Paramedics cut off of me, i found that Olympia does not make pants for my expanded size. Evidently the pair I had expanded with me over time :( That's kind of OK since I wasn't that fond of them.

So.....in searching the interwebs for custom sizes (short n fat) I found Rubber Side Down Motorsport clothing in Canada. Their normal sizes for pants with removable panels/mesh was $219 Canadian or $165 US. Seems like a steal. Custom made to fit my mutancy would be$275 US.

Anyone heard good or bad about them?

No but Canada seems a long way to be ordering for gear with more local alternatives available.

locals make custom size gear? Please do tell......

Exactly.... fellow mutant here... 6'-11" tall so I have limited choices on gear. Jackets I can buy off the rack (First Gear, XL-Tall) but pants... nope, not even close with a 38" inseam. Been wearing a set of custom Motoport Kevlar pants for 10 yrs and I've got a pair of Aerostich AD1 pants being made for me now. However, I've never heard of Rubber Side Down so I'm intrigued! Thanks for the tip!

I think Helimot is no longer making gear just gloves and boots, at least that's what he told me when I was last there 6 months ago.

I think he still is doing it until Oct / Nov, but he's probably booked solid until then. So for all intents and purposes, probably not taking any new orders.

Not as fast as I look.
Zooni leathers.

He's on the interwebs, too. He will come to you, or meet you and deliver the stuff to you for free.

Not everyone wants to wear leathers. I prefer textiles for all my time spent on the bike. Motoport was my solution. They're down in San Diego though so it's either mail order or road trip.

Just checked their website... not too hot on the colors side.
One piece, and two piece suits. look ok but id have to see one up close before even entertaining the idea.
For now id stick with my Astar's

That's a whooole lot of products for one place to have. Helimot hasnt changed his suit design in four-ever because he says making an actual suit design that WORKS is probably one of the hardest things to do. Makes me wonder about some place that has a bunch of different suits for everything... esp one I've never heard of.

ANNND THIS IS WHY:

"Rubber Side Down works directly with our manufacturer. We have full control over everything that is produced with our name on it, from start to finish. Because of this, in addition to our regular line of clothing, Custom Made clothing in any design, size, color, shape, feature etc. is also easily available from us. Leather & textile fashion wear, accessories of all types, casual wear, corporate promotional wear, and virtually anything else a person or company needs can be produced."

In other words, "We found a foreign manufacturer that had a bunch of designs. We give them 'our input' via slapping our logos on them, choosing the colors, and then selling it to you." We lack the leather working abilities to design/make anything ourselves, but we've got capital, so we're a brand.

You da Hammer........man you nailed it :thumbup

Think I'll go with KLIM and put m own armor in pants that are a bit too long. Then again, if for some reason AAA feels generous on a settlement of some sort :rofl I'll get some MotoPort pants made. Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks, squatOclock....I hadn't really looked at them before. They appear to have a very wide selection but like most vendors, even their tall sizes only go to ~35 or 36" of inseam. My jeans are 38" inseam so I need even more than that once i"m sitting on the bike as pants naturally ride up a little. That where the custom alterations are needed and Motoport and Aerostich offer that. Rubber Side Down has some interesting pants so I may consider having them make a pair for me (tho' my Mport and the not-yet-arrived 'Stich pants should cover most of my riding needs in most weather conditions).
Thanks,
Mr. BR
