Anyone have any riding suggestions in Portugal?

Headed there in October for work and I'll be taking a few days off to explore since I've never been to Europe. I'll be staying in Porto, if it helps/matters. I'm going to try to see if anyone will rent a scooter to a gimp. Hopefully if I bring some of my pics from Max or Dito they'll be more forgiving of my gooberness :ride

been meaning to PM BARFer WFO (Gerhard), think he did a Portugal moto tour recently ... will post up here if I get in touch with him ...

We’re hoping to fly into Lisbon in November to rent bikes and ride around ...

Enjoy your trip! :ride

I rode a little bit of Portugal last Sept, it was AWESOME!

Reminded me of central California, with even fewer people. Stayed out of cities mostly, rode from Malaga Spain to Portimao for WorldSBK then up the middleish, Douro Valley, and into northern Spain. Loved Portugal, definitely wanna go back. There are lots of moto rental and tour companies, just google it and you'll find plenty of great roads to ride. Eat lots of bacalau!!!

Check out the town called Soajo, its about 1 hour North-East of Porto and right on the border of Spain.

1) Amazing scenery, mountains and hot springs
2) Never ending twisties = heaven for motorcyclists
3) No tourists at all = no traffic

Also, if you wanna visit a beautiful beach towns, you have two options, but I'd spend time in both if you can.

1) Nazare - home to the largest wave ever surfed (and I think October is when it gets really big)
2) Cascais - right next to Lisbon, would make an awesome day trip (take the scenic beach route from Lisbon) but I would stay 2 days there easily
- Bonus: In Cascais, go to the rooftop at a restaurant called Cafe Galeria House of Wonders. Epic food and view

If you wanted to ride off-road at all, Intrepid Trails is run by this hilarious British dude that will take you on all the best trails all over the area around Figueira da Foz. Highly recommended!

For real! You can try contacting Steve (owner) ahead of time, he might be down to help setup a special rig for ya, they run factory racing Sherco's, guy raced Baja before so is mechanically very inclined :thumbup

Steve and the Debbie run their own hostel too, I think it was $300~$400 for 2 days of insanely fun trail riding, with room/board/rental included. Food was so cheap in Portugal!
