It was a fly over honoring Col. Dave Pinsky who passed away last week.
Quite the man. Flew U2s and SR-71s. A command pilot, he has flown over 5,500 hours in the FB-111, KC-135, F-106, F-102, T-38, T-33, T-37, T-29, and O-1 aircraft, including over 1,000 hours of Combat Time (614 combat missions over Vietnam).
Lost his house in the Tubbs fire. Executive director of the Pacific Coast Air Museum for many years.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

The thing that was :wtf was how low and slow it was flying.

Thank you for your service Colonel Pinsky and for helping make the Pacific Air Museum on of Sonoma County's gems. :thumbup

when i lived in chico every tuesday morning between 950-1020 the U2 would come land and then take off in about 20 minutes. made quite the noise as they climb almost straight up after take off. if you take smartsville road out to beale you can park up and watch them practice landing and taking off.

The TR-1 is still operational.

I recall when working at SSL in Palo Alto in the early '80s, seeing U-2s depart Moffett Field. I would hear them and exit the machine shop to watch. After liftoff, they went practically vertical and flew thus until out of sight.

I was fortunate enough to see the SR71 on numerous occasions out of Beale AFB, departure and recovery, Edwards AFB, NAS Miramar at airshows, and numerous other airshow flybys.

On a related side note, as a kid in England I watched two English Electric Lightnings depart RAF Linton On Ouse and go vertical immediately after takeoff. They disappeared, still in the vertical. Look that aeroplane up; it held many records long after the design might have been obsolete. https://www.baesystems.com/en/heritage/english-electric-lightning

...for limited time...
The one thing I remember about the U2 was that the difference between "falls out of sky" and "shit breaks" was about 10mph.

Planning a trip to the Air Force Museum in Ohio one of these years when things are back to normal to see some of these things in person.
I was there in September and side from wearing a mask and the IMAX and cafeteria being closed, it was pretty normal there. I am from Dayton and have been there countless times.
Don't plan on one day visit unless you are going to walk briskly through and not read very much.
I usually sit in awe of some of the aircraft for a long time.
I think what people don't realize is that many of the planes aren't just static displays of models and makes but actual historic aircraft. "Bock's Car" to name one.

The best part is that there is no entrance fee, ever.
