I don't know how I missed this thread back then.

It's been a few years since I climbed. Still have all of my trad gear.

I remember going to a competition at Planet Granite back in the early 90's. Chris Sharma was 12 then and had to use the foot holds as hand holds. Then there was a dude who was climbing 12c's in his bare feet.

Did someone say rock climbing? :)

I got into rock climbing over a year and half ago climbing at the gym. I got hooked on it. I wanted to climb outdoors quickly. Rope skills were easy to learn since I learned a lot from being a search and rescue member.

I climb at Planet Granite, Castle Rock, Mt Diablo and we took a trip to Red Rock near Vegas.

I wanted to learn multi-pitch climbing, so my climbing pattern and I learned the ropes and lead climbing. Outdoor climbing grades are a lot harder. Indoors the holds are easy and neon colored, so they are a lot easier to climb.

Here is the 4 pitch 5.9 Big Bad Wolf

If you're into climbing, read some of John Long's books, highly entertaining and there is a lot of history and perspective in them.

get it while it's easy
my SO and BIL used to be super into climbing. they tried to get me into it and finally persuaded me to go on what they said would be an ‘easy’ climb with them. a while into it i bugged out and they went on without me. afterwards (being pretty proud of myself for getting as far as i did), i asked my SO what number the part i did was. he looked at me funny and said ‘what are you talking about’? i said, you know, what level of difficulty? after another funny look, he explained that the part i did wasn’t part of the climb - it was the hike up to it. :nchantr

Hey, Emily Harrington just did this last month so...

You could do the John Muir route (The Mountaineer's Route) to get to the top of
Cathedral Peak. The views are awesome!!! The "hikers" route is on the back side so you wouldn't actually have to "climb" the front.
You know you want too!!! :)

FYI... With the help from the Yosemite Conservancy there is a new Climbing Exhibit in the Yosemite Valley Visitor Center.
A one day road trip to see this might be in order. Need to get me some "Yosemite"!

Shattered Air?
Thank you, I shall read.

I am reading this now. The main characters are like from Sunnyvale. One graduated from Peterson High in ‘77. I could have played football against him, had I not been 5’-2” and 105 pounds. He had an RD350 too.

Cool book, so far. References this film about Half Dome https://archive.org/details/freeclimbthenorthwestfaceofhalfdome
Which is pretty rough, and cool, and amazing, and narrated by Robert Redford.

Emily Harrington was on the Joe Rogan podcast. Good details about her accidents on El Cap. Good interview as usual.

I did some mutipitch climbing at Pinnacles a couple of weeks ago. I was having a lot of trouble getting up a route on "The Hand". My guess is that the route got harder as the holds were pulled off the wall over the years.

Climb with long pitches of run-out, Snake Dike on Half Dome. Not hard, 5.7 stuff, but run-out between some old sketchy rusty bolts.

Speaking of Half Dome, have you read "Shattered Air"? It's a good read.

I’ve climbed Snake Dike and read Shattered Air. Somewhere along the line I started climbing ice more often than rock. It would be good to get back out.
