I can't take it any more. I waited 11 years to ride again and its been raining for two months, but things are looking better. I was thinking about riding up mount Diablo tomorrow from manteca. I called, but only got a recording. Think it will be alright ? If any one wants to go, let me know

I'm down to ride up there, what time are you thinking about going?

Also, it's ten bones to get in the park.

Pro Tip: The rangers are dicks. They don't care about cyclists doing 50mph down the hill, but will hassle you if you do 3mph over the limit on a motorcycle. :|

I will pay your way in, just for going with me. I am still a little nervous about riding by myself. I know this sounds lame, but I got a different situations than most. I rode to the junction about 3 weeks ago than rode down mines with a guy I met up there (I can't remember your name, but thanks)then road back to manteca. That's my longest solo ride so far. Trying to get enough confidence to ride to paradise next week to see my dad.

Mount Diablo sucks.

As someone said the rangers are anal when it come to motorcycles.

I got pulled over for going slightly over the super low speed limit while being passed by cyclists.

Don't waste your time and go to Mount Hamilton instead.

I thought mines and mount Hamilton were closed

It's worth it to me.

If you want to go up Mt. Diablo to see Mt. Diablo, that's fine. But if you're looking for a good riding road the cost is astronomical for the 30 minute ride it is.

Mines to the Junction from Livermore down is open. But with your condition, I would not ride it. Way too much debris all over the road.

Funny thing is, I grew up on twenty acres off of tassahara RD at the base of mount Diablo and have only been to the top one time. I am just looking for somewhere to ride too

I've had the exact opposite experience. :dunno
I have been seen going well over the posted limit with no ramifications, and actually wheelied past a ranger at the intersection halfway up. He met us at the top and checked our licenses and regs, and told us to be cool.

In fact, the only time I've been hassled is when someone called in to complain about a guy on a supermoto riding down the mountain with no hands. :laughing
Ranger at the gate told me to keep both hands on the bars from now on. :rofl

OP, not sure if I can swing a nooner with ya. That's the middle of my workday, but I might be able to peel off if I fib and say I have a dr appt. :laughing
I'm usually off at 3:15, if you can make the ride a little later than noon I'll make it a point to leave early. :ride

And thanks for the offer but I'll pay my way, I try to throw some money at the parks to do my part to keep them open. :thumbup

For $125 you can get an annual 'Poppy' state parks vehicle pass that lets you into lots of parks including Mt. Diablo. I usually get it so that I can hit Mt. Diablo on my lunch breaks. If you go more than once a month it's worth it.

I just don't want to get stuck in all that crazy ass traffic from livermore to manteca. That's why I wanted to be headed back over the hill (Altamont) by 3. But I appreciate the offer. Maybe on the weekend some time. Thanks

I asked about the senior discount when I went up Mt. Diablo about a month ago and I got one dollar off. Nothing was mentioned about a Golden Bear Pass. I'll get one of those if this is true.

As for the National Park Senior Pass, it's only $20.00 if you do it through the mail, because they add another ten bucks processing fee. It's $10.00 if you buy it when you enter any National Park.

i live somewhat close to mt diablo - i took a run down redwood road on Saturday - you can't push it through there (still some slides that need to be completely cleared and it's down to 1 lane at one point + a few wet spots) but it was still a fun "short" trip. I also ventured down Camino Tassajara to highland rd with the intention of exploring Morgan Territory Rd but that ended up being closed and Highland Rd was in pretty rough shape.

I've only been in the area for 2 months but it's been challenging finding any safe roads to do some spirited riding on - I think that's to be expected though given all the rain - it will take some time for any of these areas to clear up.
