Any of you drive for Uber?

I've been mulling the idea around as a way to kill the time suck after work on the nights that Kelly works. I'm on the fence, though. I've read up on as much information on the program that Uber provides, now I'm curious what any of you that drive for them have to say.

And go...

You live in SD, right? You'd probably have to go downtown to get the real action.

Only thing I've heard is that a few drivers were getting incorrect tax statements, saying they had made a lot more than they really did. Maybe that was Lyft though.

I haven't lived in San Diego since January of 2014. :teeth

I'm aware that all the action is in or near SF and that's fine with me. Although their service map for the area goes from Marin all the way down to Monterey.

A friend of mine does it, says it's great money but stressful. I think it's flexible as far as hours. Maybe there is some sort of minimum, but she seems to be able to choose how many hours a week she wants, when, etc.

A friend does it and he digs it. He's an IT guy during the day and drives a couple nights a week for the extra bucks. He's got some funny stories and hasn't had any douchebags as of yet. He really likes that the money side of things is removed.

Yeah it looks like you have to do a minimum of one trip a month...although I know I'd do more. I'm really concerned about the possibility of picking up some douchecanoes, though.

You're heading in the right direction. Why not fill your time with something more productive like underwater basket weaving?

I know a guy that does in SF. He lives in Freakmont, but drives in here to do it and he says the cash is worth it. He runs his own cleaning business on the side at night though.

My car does not qualify :(

Kinda silly since I know there are folks out there that could make good use of my dirty ol pick up.

You gonna Uber people in the FiSt?

I know if I called for one of those taxi services and a compact car pulled up, I wouldn't be all that thrilled.

I live close by Levi Stadium and my friends and I have been talking about doing it just for events there.

Just one trip a month? That's awesome. Where is SUber (sportbike uber?).

I think the hourly comes out to around $25? Really good for driving, and I know the pay depends on location/business. My friend seems to love it.

Forgot to add, my friend hasn't met any dbags, despite being at it a month and driving some late-night hours. Everyone has been cool, and she's given them all high passenger ratings. If I needed some cash or had extra time, Uber seems sweet.

Get that!
$25 an hour is not bad. Is that including gas $ and maintenance?

I would do it for $50 an hour.

How the hell can working whenever you want be stressful? :laughing

For what it's worth, every Uber driver I've had seems like they're living a pretty low-stress existence. Seems to be a lot of hate directed at Uber lately, but I love it.

99% of the time, it's Priuses, but compared to actual taxis, any late model Prius is a massive deskankification upgrade.

Plus, If you want a fancy car or an SUV, you can choose that class of service up-front. And in all cases, you see make & model when the driver accepts the ride; and if it's a brand you're allergic to, you can always cancel. :thumbup
