I personally like GIMP as well, but that link above gives you a decent range to see what you like best. GIMP can be a little difficult at first.

I know nothing about photo editing, and I found GIMP pretty user friendly. There are a couple of tutorials on Youtube that might help you.

I taught myself gimp in under an hour and produced a few gems...

If you know Photoshop, the GIMP is your alternative.
If you've never used Photoshop, I don't recommend GIMP but instead would recommend paint.net. Or if you'd rather pay just a bit, Paint Shop Pro is very good.

Without buying the whole package at the store, are there any programs you can download that let you do simple photo chops?

I just need to be able to cut a piece of a picture out without it being a square...like to trace the person so I can put them into another scene.

Got a family member to mess, so this is high priority.

Thanks.

por que?

also, if you have Win7 MS Paint got a huge boost in not-suckyness for basic messing around stuff.

i use GIMP and like it. also have tried Paint.net. i liked it but just stick with GIMP.

Sure it's as powerful as Photoshop (maybe), but the user interface reeks of what ails most Linux applications - ass backwards UI.

Note: I <3 Linux, just not the GIMP.
