Any Experience with Sonic internet over AT&T Fiber?

There's no reason we shouldn't have nationwide fiber already

We have pretty good fiber coverage except for the last mile. Even over where the treehouse is, there is fiber to within a couple of miles of the place. A little local ISP got a tap and is running basically directional WiFi to houses in the area.

I can see AT&T has been hanging fiber on my street here, but I'm not sure whether service is available yet.

I've been a sonic.net customer for years with their service over AT&T's copper infrastructure.

Does anyone have any experience with the Sonic.net service over AT&T's infrastructure? I'm not lucky enough to live where Sonic has run their own infrastructure.

What will they do in the install, just install a fiber box next to the telephone demarcation or will they run the fiber to where I have my existing phone drop and go through the crawl space? I don't really feel like jumping down there myself. :laughing

ATT provides fiber to about 1/3 mile from here, where it switches to copper.

I switched to Sonic from ATT two-pair DSL where I could get almost 20 down and 2.5 up. Sonic claimed that I could get the same service from them but the cost was less. They completely screwed the pooch. I'm getting no better than 10 down and 1.25 up (almost like one of the pair aren't working) and they keep telling me that's all I can get here. I keep telling them that I got twice that from ATT and they either can't get me that or aren't listening.

I'm kicking them to the curb this month. Sure I'm paying less. I'm also getting slower service and they're not living up to their claim. I'm happy to pay more for more speed. I figure I'll give comcast a try. 100+ down and 10+ up. We'll see what happens when the power goes out. I'll have a UPS and generator to keep my stuff going, who know what they have for their end.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. Another good thing about Sonic is they don't police your broadband. You can use a VPN, run torrents, whatever you desire. Some other major service providers either charge you more or don't allow it at all.

They also give free VPN which is handy when I am outside the country or using hotel/airport/coffeshop wifi with my personal computer.

I had Sonic for years in SF (Their older, DSL service) and I loved them. One thing nobody's mentioned is Sonic has great support/tech people. Even calling them on the phone I got great tech support.
We're in a more rural area now so comcast is the only (shitty and expensive) option. Sonic is expanding in our area but I'm not holding my breathe.

Nope total BS, they had no fukn clue how to setup the router they sold me in the package, posted on their forums as well, I wanted some basic settings thing like qos settings, I forgot this was over 10+ years ago I'm local to them as well and used them since the 96 when dsl first came about right after dialup.

I left them after using them for like 15 years

But I would try out gigabit lines if they offered it in my area

I recently switched from ATT 2-wire to their fiber. The 2 wire plan was 24/1.5 (down/up) advertise with an actual of about 18/.7, the new fiber plan is advertised 300/300 and I routinely see 320 to 380 down and up, on wifi on the other side of the house (1200sqft). Initially I could only hit 120-150 but I used a wifi analyzer to find some channels that were cleaner than what the router was choosing.
