Any else have the iPhone fail to block calls while riding?

I am curious if I am alone on this one. I have noticed that my iPhone automatically blocks calls when I drive, no matter the speed but I have had it allow calls while riding around San Francisco (not stopped either). Has this happened to anyone else?

and it will turn on automatically when your iPhone connects to your car via Bluetooth1 or when your iPhone senses driving motion.

So connecting to a car’s Bluetooth is a for sure thing. But when riding a bike, it may not be able to figure out if you’re actually driving a car, or riding in a bus, on BART, or something else where you could answer the phone.

I don’t have Bluetooth in neither the car or the motorbike. The DND sometimes kicks in while charging, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes while in the pocket, sometimes it doesn’t. It varies.

How does the iPhone distinguish whether you're driving or sitting in the car as a passenger?
It doesn’t.

Nannytechnology?

Wife is the iPhone user. Work phone. Just now finding there are various nanny settings.

Have an android upgrade that has a few 'nanny' opt-outs.

Worse is my car's Bluetooth interaction. Blocks me from undertaking some rather simple tasks, I'm sure 'for my own good'.

No work around found as yet.

Assume all this is being driven by corporate lawyers advising limiting crackpot nuisance suits.

I hate that I can't operate my car's gsp while on the move. Can't select from stored addresses. Not even a passenger can operate it for me. Screw that shit :thumbdown

Thank the lawyers for that lockout. However you can do just about anything if you use the voice commands. But I’m sure I do not have to tell you that the recognition leaves a lot to be desired.

I made an attempt to go with the voice commands but found it annoying so I simply carried a Garmin GPS to use alongside the built in one. The Acura has a nice large screen which allows good view of dead ends and such stuff you want to avoid. The Garmin allows me to make selections on the move.

I never know if my phone is ringing while I am riding because it's in my pocket. You could try putting it away in airplane mode.

Problem solved.

If it’s an iPhone, change your settings. My 6S+ doesn’t restrict anything. And if you disable the maps use of voice command, you can run music apps with Google maps also running.

My android allows me to disallow phone calls while connected to my helmet bluetooth. Does iOS not have a similar feature?

To answer the original question, my iPhone doesn't block calls when I'm riding - or doing anything else. One of the advantages of having an old one I guess (4s). :cool

I'll occasionally notice it vibrating in my pocked while riding. No way I could pull over and get my helmet off in time to answer it. I can still remember heading up Mt. Hamilton a month or two back and pulling over under a tree to make a call to somebody. About five seconds after I had put my earplugs back in, put my helmet and gloves back on, and started to pull away it went off. For some reason I didn't want to take all of that back off to deal with it. It turned out it was my son calling about rejetting his XR650L. We handled that with a few text messages. (I strongly dislike texting more than a few words. :thumbdown )

Never noticed it, but I disable a number of settings so maybe that’s why? I’m on a 6 with current firmware.

EDIT: nevermind, I think I misunderstood. After reading the OP again sounds like you WANT calls blocked while riding. If I don’t want calls or texts to come through I just turn on “Do Not Disturb” but if someone calls you twice in a row they can bypass that and the call will go through the second time. Also you can mark specific contacts as able to bypass do not disturb on the first call.

Usual Suspect
DND via the 'Automatic' method hasn't worked for me in a car or on my bike at all. I have an iPhone 6 FWIW. I think it's a cool tech and I manually toggle it sometimes when I remember, but pretty annoying it doesn't work as expected. Perhaps the later iPhones work with this feature or perhaps it only works with the Bluetooth setting? Don't know. Glad to see I'm not the only one who noticed this.

Bluetooth in my car? It's a 2009 Honda Fit, I am happy that it has wheels but nothing that fancy.

On the other hand, when riding I always have my phone connected by Bluetooth to my Sena.

Sure but honestly that is an extra step I am not likely to do on a daily. I am just curious why it works like a charm in the car but not necessarily on the bike.

Weird. Mine locks almost soon as the car starts moving.

Good. That's what we want.

I probably shouldn't bother to mention it but that is not actually true. When attempt to access the phone a pop-up will appear, you just have to select that you are not driving and then it behaves normally.
