Anti speeding tech becomes law in EU

"...I strip away the old debris, that hides a shining car..."

Just another reason not to buy a new car.

It looks like they've included older cars in this law too. 'New cars by 2022. Older models by 2024'.

That's the provision i can't believe made it through. By the wording in the article, they basically outlawed all older cars. Can you imagine being required to retrofit your classic Porsche, Ferrari, lambo, to include GPS, cameras and engine power reducing tech?

:wtf

Never happen. Aside from the cost, nobody would ever agree to it. As with many other potential types of government overreach, there would be trucks full of diesel and fertilizer showing up at government buildings on a regular basis.

Mine didn't. Racked up two speeding tickets in France last summer. Cameras everywhere aparently. In retrospect, I wish the car I'd rented had a speed limiter. :laughing

%^%^ this... :laughing

read French next time, buddy! That, and, literally, the camera sign next to the French words. If not the first time (one ticket)... OK maybe the second time!

Yeah, well... I was in tourist mode. How many tourists do you see in SF ignoring signs? :x

Didn't even know I got 'em till a few months later when the rental company sent me a letter. They weren't tickets. They were performance awards I tell ya! :laughing

So, I guess I'm ok with the technology and law there. Just don't try installing that shit here... oh wait... I still live in CA. It's gotta be on the way. We're always first.

The law says the driver can disable it... for now.

Yep. I bet a LOT of people will disable it. Maybe those initially in favor of it might realize that they can't accelerate their way out of a jam, and eventually disable it as well.

It sure seems like they're only doing that to get this bullshit to pass. I'm betting in short order, once it's fully implemented, those lawmakers come back and amend the law, making it illegal to disable.
