Sucks, but it sounds like the off duty guys were able to apply enough pressure on the shooter for him to shoot himself pretty quickly. I wonder what the dept policy is on off duty officers in a situation like this.

Are you talking about the shooting yesterday, Thursday, November 14, in Saugus, California?

Not a LEO, but I would hope that the "policy" is to save innocent lives.

yeah, i bring it up cause the POS RSO in Florida, i believe his defense in not engaging the shooter was that his employer's policy was for backup to arrive. Wondering if that is/was normal and if polices are being reviewed/changed because of it.

Bad bit of luck for the shooter. Among the parents in front of the school, dropping off their kids, were an LA County Sheriff's detective, an Inglewood PD officer, and an LAPD officer.

[LA County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said: LASO Detective Daniel Finn] "was exiting, driving away from the school along the perimeter, when he saw all of the children running away from the sound of the gunfire. He turned around and became the very first person on scene. He was accompanied by Officer Sean Yanez from the Inglewood Police Department and Officer Gus Ramirez from LAPD. So the three of them were the very first on scene and they entered the school literally within seconds of the shooting."

Uniformed deputies from the sheriff's Santa Clarita Station arrived within a minute, the sheriff said. Deputy James Callahan, who works as a school resource officer at Saugus High School, was also on the scene within a matter of moments.

The deputies and officers used trauma kits that were available at the school to help stem the victims' bleeding.

"As soon as they saw the six victims, they saw the handgun was there, they realized there was not a pending threat immediately and they tended to the care of all of the victims and got the first aid rolling," the sheriff said.

"Off-duty first responders were there and did not hesitate, turned around and went right into the source of the gunfire to attempt to neutralize it, and they rendered first aid immediately," he said. "Their actions definitely saved lives, and my hat’s off to them."
Horrible tragedy, heroic response.

What are you wondering about? Sounds like they were in a position to put their lives on the line and make a difference, and they did just that. :dunno

I was in a position to try and patent a layperson trauma kit about 6 years ago...I could probably be much more comfortable right about now.
