I really hope we dont see these planes filled with warheads. I think imma start looking into usa's patriot missle defense systems, wtf is the procedure when a aircraft is flying in a no fly zone, or when they veer off route

Looks like we're breaking out the tinfoil. I'm gonna make mine a stetson

:| :rolleyes well just because there are guys walking around with tinfoil doesn't mean nobody can be planning anything :rolleyes

We simply don't know yet. If the technical glitch/malfunction seems to be a high probability due to the model of the plane, we can consider that first..

.. and then wait for the discoveries yanno

p.s. but yesterday I was thinking I can't believe events like these are still possible to happen :(

p.p.s. the second thread from mike23w with the Auzie news link seems to have been moved incorrectly:
Moved: AirAsia flight from Indonesia to Singapore loses contact

Wow this has to be another cover up, no wreckage found and going by oil slicks seen in the air, this plane is in the "bottom of the sea" on a heavily traveled shipping route

I watched this a month or two ago. My takeaway from it was that it posits the first jet was hijacked, but for unknown reasons. Regardless of what is right or wrong, I found the technology they investigated to be fascinating.

If I recall correctly, the gist of the program was this:

Jet willfully turned into a zone where there was no radar.
Jet willfully disabled communication systems.
Jet disappeared.
They tracked its motion through back up communications with satellites.
This is what caused the search area to be so enormous.

Same thing this time around? I have no idea.

At this time I'd say controlled flight into extreme weather. Enroute control didn't advise them of the nasty stuff ahead? Onboard radar inop or turned off? C'mon, that on your dashboard shit shows weather a hundred miles off which gives you lots of time to divert. See the red shit on your screen you simply divert.

Airliners have satellite linked communications with the company who have minions that watch every flight and onboard condition of the plane in real time. In the cockpit there are automatic data printouts from the company. 'Aah guys, there's weather ahead so why don'tcha divert a bit'. Crew on their prayer mats ass in the air? Why not simply fly over the tops of the weather.

In other words, airplane goes into nasty clouds and tin foil comes out and it's been done many times before.

But srsly, wtf is with Malaysia and airplanes anyway.
