What can you tell me about this road?
Making a route from the Carrizo Plain. Will take back roads to Gorman, on to Palmdale. This road runs from just south of Palmdale, to 2, above Pasadena.
Don't think I'll have time to run all of Highway 2, so this is road is my for fun while being kinda direct.
Thanks.

Yea it's a good road. It doesn't have the sweepers Angeles Crest is famous, but it's simply not as twisty either. But it'll get you up to the junction, then you'll head down the hill to La Cañada.

I have not been on it in years, though. The area was pretty hard hit by a fire several years ago.

the surface is EXCELLENT.

it get alot more traffic than angeles crest because it is opened year round. much cleaner unless it just rained.

take angeles forrest, left on upper tujunga "9 mile" and down angeles crest to la canada.

9 mile section is high speed and also excellent surface.

Angeles Crest is amazing. I live 15min away. Pretty smooth and the views are spectacular. Can stop for lunch at Newcombs Ranch which is the go to place for bikes and a fair number of cars. Can continue up to Wrightwood which is a quaint small mountain town. Then continue on down (or up) the other side through Valyermo into the desert and the Palmdale area. The road is is fine shape. There are a few decreasing radius corners that have sent more than a few off on drops of hundreds of feet ... just sayin. Most crowded weekend mornings. If you can go during the week mid day you'll have the road to yourself. Cage traffic at rush hour. This time of year there can be snow and black ice up there. Be safe and enjoy the view.

A bunch of great info! Thank you guys. ate51, I've taken that route through Wrightwood that you speak of. Fun ride. This trip is in April, so weather should be nice.

Take 33 to Lockwood Valley Road. Gorman Post Road to Old Ridge Route to Pine Canyon Road (turns into Elisabeth Lake road (lunch at The RockInn). Right on Tierra Subida, left on Barrel Springs, right on Sierra Hwy and right again at Sierra Hwy/Pearblossom road. Left on Angeles Forest to Upper Big Tujunga Road (nickname: 9 mile or shortcut). Turn left at the top of the hill onto The Crest go to Newcombs Ranch, turn around and go back down to Pasadena or return to Palmdale. Watch your speed at the bottom of the Crest.

Thanks. I'll check my maps when I get home. My destination for that day is Anaheim, by about 3.

Go down to the bottom of the Crest, then freeway the rest of the way. Probably the worst part of LA traffic with not many alternate routes.

But there's HOV most of the way, unless he takes the 5, and being in Anaheim by 3 means he should miss most of the traffic, on most any day. The 5 is likely the shortest route, but it's a bit of a trick to (easily) get to it from Pasadena. May as well 210->57, keep it simple. 5's horrible anyway until you hit OC.

Angels in town for 1/2 of April -- come on down and catch the action of Otani, Trout, Simmons batting and in the field, and Richards, Skaggs, and Otani on the mound.

Catching a ball game would be fun. It'll be interesting to see how Otani does, and Trout is a special talent.
