AMB Questions??

So what is the consensus on using the direct powered vs using the battery powered units?? I know the pros and cons of them, but was more concerned with the life of the units or the batteries on them?

I have heard/seen some posts about the batteries having a "short life", so I am assuming this is talking about the rechargeable units? I don't know what all the costs are in regards to that, but it seemed that was a downside to going rechargable vs direct powered?

I would rather have the ease of a batttery powered unit vs a direct powered, but not at the expense of long term "ownership" of one. By this I mean what ever the cost of one vs the cost of the other??

Any and all feedback on this would be appreciated as the time is closing in quickly on sorting this out and I have yet to commit my limited dollars to anything on this matter. Seems more people that run multiple organizations actually have some "hands on" or more "real world" experience with them .... so that is what I am looking for ....

Real experience!!!

I am with you on this one dude. Seems like no info is anywhere??? I also want to purchase a battery one or rechargable one, but not sure how long they last. I run a HRC wire harnass, so I don't think they built a special plug in for a transponder and I don't want to hack into it.

Don't know about you guys, but I don't want to hassle with battery charging. I have the Hard wired unit and used a 2 Battery Tender quick disconnect leads.

I dunno, I'll take a dead transponder battery over a dead bike battery any day. :p

Is the battery covered under the warranty? I thought it was excluded.

Here's the verbage from Shawn ...

"A free extended warranty is included if purchased before March 22nd. This covers 100% replacement cost against malfunction (non-crash or fire related) for the first 3 years."

It leads me to believe that, if the battery fails to hold a charge, it would be considered a malfunction. I've been wrong before .. .. ..:|:burnout

If anyone is interested, here is how I hard wired the transponder. I bought an extra Battery Tender fused ring terminal quick disconnect since I already had one fitted to battery for charging, I cut and spliced it into the transponder harness and just routed it. The ends of the leads are capped. I coiled the trans. harness under the tank securely for when I'm not racing or charging the battery. Easy,Peasy...
BTW, I used velcro along with the zip ties..

Looks good. The only thing I would not do, is the velcro thing. I take my forks off quite a bit, and you won't be able to remove fork with that velcro on there. I would think the zip ties would be sufficient enough. But thats me.

A strip of duct-tape over the zip-ties (on the fork leg) works great! Easy-on, easy-off, and it does its job when in place. And yes it is a good idea to add something to the zip-ties to prevent the transponder from rotating around the fork.
