Alonso Wins Daytona 24

Congrats to Fernando Alonso on winning the Daytona 24. Says he was calling for race to be stopped while he was in second a few laps earlier. That's the luck, I guess. Now onward to Indy and LeMans.

Good for Alonso!

He's always been a great driver, it hasn't been until the last 5 years that he has also become a very likable guy as well.

Haven't seen him look so happy in years!
Somebody of his caliber is never happy being a back marker. :laughing

McLaren has been just a shadow of what it had been before. Can't blame him for finally pulling the plug and GTF out of there.

I think he's the best race car driver of his generation, talent wise. If I had to choose one racer from the past 30 years to win a race in equal cars, I'd take him.

In motos, it would be Casey Stoner. Still think he's the fastest pure racer I've ever seen on a motorcycle.

Hamilton beat Alonso in the same car his rookie season. As many have found out, Hamilton is a pure racer and rarely ever cracks. I'd put Alonso #2 in the list, they're both extremely good.

I think that Casey Stoner was the fastest rider I've ever seen, when it came to wheel to wheel racing he wasn't so happy. I wish we could have seen MM97 vs Rossi in his prime vs Stoner in his prime vs Alex Barros in his prime. When Barros had a setup that he was comfortable with there was nobody that could touch him, kind of like JLo.

Recedite, plebes!
Yes the Cadillac DPi teams did very well in spite of the all the rain!!!
Fun to see the Konica Minolta and Whelen Engineering cars dicing it up for the lead. Cadillac cars have won the last three years.

A little sad to hear that Christian Fittipaldi was retiring from racing. I spoke with him at last year's LBGP. I didn't see his name on the car and asked him about it and he said that he was staying with the Cadillac team but was only doing the endurance races.

Also, really cool to see Alex Zanardi in the specially prepped BMW M8, GTLM class.

1. Konica Minolta Cadillac DPi (van der Zande/Taylor/Alonso/Kobayashi) 593 laps
2. Whelen Engineering Racing Cadillac DPi (Nasr/Curran/Derani) + 13.458s
3. Acura Team Penske Acura DPi (Taylor/Castroneves/Rossi) + 13.964s
4. CORE Autosport Nissan DPi (Bennett/Braun/Dumas/Duval) + 4 laps
5. JDC-Miller Motorsports Cadillac DPi (Goikhberg/Vautier/DeFrancesco/Barrichello) + 7 laps
6. DragonSpeed Oreca 07 Gibson (Gonzalez/Maldonado/Saavedra/Cullen) + 11 laps
7. Performance Tech Motorsports Oreca 07 Gibson (K Masson/R Masson/Cassels/Wright) + 15 laps
8. Acura Team Penske Acura DPi (Montoya/Cameron/Pagenaud) + 17 laps
9. Mustang Sampling Racing Cadillac DPi (Barbosa/Conway/Albuquerque/Fittipaldi) + 20 laps
