Almost died.. Snapped femur instead

Any other bone and I would agree but not with femurs - stay on them as prescribed

the mechanism of injury is so intense - the amount of force require to break a femur is massive - there is so much soft tissue damage you don't even know about and won't know about until the surgery is healed... and then body starts to heal itself.

Right. My buddy broke his and it healed 1 degree off. Had to rebreak.

My point is don't get hooked to oxys and stuff, esp if he knows his personality has an addictive nature.

BTW - forgot, heal up soon man! Sucks, but you will get through it.

I don't think oxy's are being produced any longer.
Please take this time to process the event and the fact that you are still living.
Do not rush time and fight to heal well.
Shit-I'm happy to hear you are alive and have a potentially wonderful future.

Glad you're alive and that medical technology is so incredible. That is the greatest upside.

Problem with drugs is that they CAN mess with your overall psychology. I finally refused the hydrocodone because I kept wanting to jump out of the window in my hospital room. I am not kidding. I "ideated" or whatever the word is, landing down there on Ashby and everything. Didn't help that it was the month of December and all.

Glad you're semi-ok!

Healing takes time and you'll have to dig deep to get through the pain and to the other side. Being stubborn about pain pills makes healing a whole lot harder - if you're in too much pain you'll never be able to weight bear and re-build bone. Listen to your doctors and wean off when you can.

Today is the first time in nearly 1 1/2 yrs I was able to fully wash my hair with both arms, boy does it feel good to be able to do the little things.

Take your time and do your PT as if you're life depends on it. Keep your mind occupied and set goals.

Let me know if you need an ear about healing from injuries. Good luck and happy you're still around! :thumbup

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I've never been through what you're facing so not much help there. Glad it wasn't worse and you're still here.

35 years back had my leg crushed (bumper/moto case), 99% back.

take the pain drugs, but plan on walking away from them in six to nine months.
( but keep them around).

double yes on getting vertical asap, should have seen my big toe the first time out of bed 😁

good you are able to talk and laught about it. let your body heal, take vitamins,
plan on a year out of it ( took me two and a half years). over one year till i was allowed to put weight on the leg.

heal up and ride on 🚴 (sorry no moto icon).

Can I be....frank?
Long story short, I'm on a lot of drugs(in hospital), wrecked bike going into a blind corner... Low sided into a guardrail at 50mph lucky I didn't die, got a life flight and I made it out with just a shattered femur that was sticking out through my skin...

What the fuck do I do now.

Playstation or XBox, reading, learn to play a musical instrument, meditation, take online courses, study a foreign language....many options. And most important: healing!

+1 for online courses. We've talked about it before briefly, but now would be a great time to start studying programming. Coursera offers free programming classes from MIT, Princeton, Stanford, Harvard, etc. HackerRank has practice exercises for various things. Why not shift careers while you recover?

Above all I like to play.
Glad you've made it this far, ABC.

What to do now? Do what the doctors say. They're not magicians, but they will know what's best.

Ask your gf to check in with the hospital staff that handles insurance claims, etc., and with your insurance company. It ain't cheap, but the sooner stuff can be started, the better in the long run.

What to do in the process of healing? Rest. Eat well. Keep your mind active. Try to be regular. Do all of the physical therapy. Check into some individual therapy (getting busted up *really* is a traumatic deal). Get someone to go with you for at least the first appointment with every new doctor / therapist / office.

Thank your gf (and other supporting people).

Keep us posted once in a while.

They still make Percocet. My lady had an Rx not too long ago.

OP, that really sucks man. As everyone has said, just do what the doctors say, do the PT, and all that. And buy your lady something really nice when you're through all of this. She's gonna deserve it. Mine went out and rented me a wheelchair so she could get me out of the house and all kinds of stuff.

Thanks for the information. I keep hearing information from my opioid addicted clients that one of their favorites isn't available on the streets anymore. I will definately include percoset in my current assessment.......

hydrocodone is similar but is less regulated.......
OP-be careful and cautious about the addictive qualities of the medicine you are taking for pain-the withdrawal symptoms suck ass.

ABC, I'm glad you're still with us. I've had quite a few nasty injuries over the years. Hit me up if you want to discuss details, advice, etc. Hang in there, use the pain meds only as much as you have to.
