Alaska-ish: where should I go?

This summer I plan on heading north on the NC700.

I'll be going all the way north. Still undecided on Prudhoe Bay vs Tuk.

Any thoughts on which? My understanding is that the road to Tuk is often a bit more treacherous, and I won't be on a particularly dirt friendly bike.

Anywhere specific I should go on the way there?

Anyone interested in coming with? Probably going in June.

This type of ride is on my bucket list but I think it will have to wait until my kid is off to college (couple more years). I’ll be watching this thread!

totally awesom ... :thumbup

had to make the Deadhorse - Inuvick choice years ago, before there was a road to Tuktoyaktuk ...

I’d do the new road to Tuk just to make the old timers jealous ... :afm199:toothless

think I used the Dust-to-Dawson rally in June as a sort-of base camp ... got the best Dempster and Haul Road intelligence from those people, from guys who’d just been up to both places ... was able to head either way from there ...

at that point was able to know what the weather had been doing recently too ... and they were able to help in Dawson City with my brand-new worn-out TKC80s ... :laughing

have fun, you can’t really go wrong ... :ride

Have you bought the Milepost book yet? I just got it, really helping with my planning. (I had no idea where to go before looking at it)

What I was going to do was use Butler Maps for California, Orgeon, Washington, and Alaska to plan a route. I didn't have the Oregon map till recently though. Of course there is Canada also anyone know of any motorcycle focused map for Canada?

I did this two years ago, to Prudhoe Bay. Let me know if I can help with any questions you may have.

Anyone interested in coming with? Still don't really have plans worked out but that tends to be last minute for me.

Bay Area noob
You might want to check out Telegraph Creek in British Columbia if you have some spare time. It's about 3 hrs from Dease Lake. The scenery driving through the mountains is breathtaking. I used to live in Cassiar in the mid-70's as a kid and went there a few times camping and such. It's a gravel road, but you ride should have no problems navigating it.

Im back living in Kelowna BC. If you're coming through this way, I'm always up for a ride. Not likely to Alaska, but could show you some nice roads heading in that direction. Plus I used to live in Stewart BC/Hyder Alaska, so could also recommend some stops along the way.

Ride to Alaska

I rode my 1200 GSA from the bay area to Dead horse last July/August. It took me 9 days to get up there then took three weeks to get back.

No cell service when you get to Cold Foot camp. So if you’re going to rent a room there, book it when you get to Fairbanks. The same goes for booking a seat on the bus that takes you to the actual Prudhoe Bay. You need to book it a day in advanced or so.

Fuel stations no farther than 250 miles. So you’re good if your bike can ride that far without needing fuel. Take a gas can if you need it.

I paid everything with a credit card and didn’t really need Canadian money even tho I got some.

Weather was from 105 degrees to 30 degrees. Dry to rain.

I crossed the border Osoyoos cause I didn’t want to wait in line at the busy border crossings.

Check out Denali highway (dirt road)
Hains Alaska and take a ferry to Skagway
Hyder Alaska and go eat halibut at the famous Bus

Should be lots of fun. Enjoy :ride
