Aether Urban Adventure: SF Edition

geoff2k

Canadianus Expatrius
Just got an email about this. Looks like fun, but has a $75 fee...

http://www.aetherapparel.com/products/urban-adventure-san-francisco

There's a group ride to kick things off, then:

The afternoon will kick off with an on-site catered lunch, followed by skills training by active police motor officer Kerry Schilf. Participants will have the chance to learn how to "ride like a cop" by practicing on the same cone's course motor officer use to train, while receiving critical feedback and coaching.

The day's events will culminate with a motorcycle obstacle course designed by staff from RawHyde Adventures, the guru's of off-road adventure riding. Here, bikes of all makes and models will use their low-speed handling skills to navigate through an urban debris field for the chance to win prizes and give-aways from Piston and Chain, RawHyde Adventures, and Aether.

There are some reviews here and here of their LA and NYC events.

Do more, bitch less.
Comes with participation stickers at the end of the day! What's not to like?

No rider left behind.

Really...the price of that gear?!?!?!? SF really is run for and by the techies now, eh?

The textile stuff is about the price of high end gear from Aerostich, Motoport, BMW or Klim. If (and its a big if) the stuff is very high quality it could be worth it. Seeing as they are made in China and don't even have waterproof zippers I am a bit doubtful about quality. Mid grade materials at best used in construction (dynatec is decent, the rest is no name nylon)

Too bad, since I like the non-moto style design on their canyon jacket. I wish more companies would make plain looking, high quality moto gear. Their marketing aggravates me though.

The leather jacket is just stupid expensive though, more than full custom would cost.

Non-moto style? You mean like it is loose and flops around and stuff. Nice. If you go down, the jacket is doing squat to protect your middle body. You might as well just wear any dang leather jacket that you like. You can buy the under-clothing armor sets for some protection, if you get paranoid, or wise. :teeth

For some reason almost every manufacturer of textile gear thinks 8 different colors and huge logos are required if a jacket has armor and fits well.

Plain, well cut, armored leather jackets are available, but almost no one makes the same in textile.

Oh, I see your point, now. I read it the other way around. I agree, but I am strictly a leather guy. Well, until I retire to a sport-tour/adventure thingy. Then I might wear plastic. (But I doubt it).

I like they look of their stuff actually, but yeah it is way too pricey. I may check out the event though.

I didn't complain. But, aren't opinions on pricing and styling allowed anymore?
