The Hills are Alive ... :ride:laughing

updating the Anthony Peak campout campaign ...
looking like THURSDAY night, July 18, 2019 ...

I’m planning to leave South of Market Wednesday at 1:30p
and hope to get to Deer Island to camp Wednesday night
on Cache Creek, and on to Anthony Peak on Thursday ...

think there’s a couple ADV BARFers
who have expressed interest in meeting
up on Anthony Peak ... plenty of room up there ... :gsxrgrl

hopefully my bike will start ...

well, I'm off like a herd of turtles, hopefully later today, on my anual-ish
BARF 2019 Hoho Magic Weaverville Rally/Mendo Grand Tour. :party

I've been to three of these, and they make an awesome opportunity to Tour the Mendocino National Forest from south to north and back again ... maybe 700 to 800 miles of dirt fire roads round-trip from Lower Haight.

Think two wheel tramp and Budman have 75 people registered for the Hoho Magic Rally at the 49er Motel in Weaverville on Friday and Saturday. Seems like we'll have a huge crew of big KTM adventure bikes this year (over 10?), too ... :gsxrgrl

oobus has joined me in the past, but has work and fishing commitments this year ... maybe next year, for the fifth anniversary of the Weaverville Rally. :laughing

HeatXfer has threatened to join me on Anthony Peak on Thursday night on his big KTM ... here's his route:

my plan, if my poor KLR starts, and if I can get my act together, is to do 136 miles today, and camp at Buck Island on Cache Creek:

zoom in google map link.

the pic above is Bully Choop Mountain, one of the highlights of riding up around Weaverville ... hopefully the gate is open to the watchtower again this year.

m0t0_ryder sez he may try to ride up on Friday and try to meet-up on Bully Choop ... :ride

SFMCjohn's SPOT link.

anyway ... lots of room at Buck Island tonight and on top of Anthony Peak on Thursday. guess the 49er is full ... :toothless:blah

John's spot has him in Stonyford for over 1 hour. If he is stuck and needs someone to retrieve him and his bike, I can go pick him up, just send me a pm.

Looks like he's at the Stonyford store so hopefully he's good. Maybe just taking a break? Maybe he forgot to turn it on when he left that location.

I'll text him.

He's on the move now. I texted but once he leaves Stony he wont have any signal for a while. Probably took a nap or something.

Good to know you're out there if needed.

Riding All The Time
I think I just might like to become an adventure rider!
I keep forgetting to check in on this awesome thread, so I guess I should subscribe so I don't miss any inspiration from you guys/gals
I sort of got a taste during the Topaz 400 last wknd put on by Jerry Counts.
But since it's a GPS guided dual sport event, it probably doesn't qualify as an "adventure ride", but it seemed like a bit of adventure to me!

Lots of gnarly trail
What a blast!

Thanks, it was an adventure for me for sure!

Saturday we did this one that wasn't on the list:
"170 Mi Mt Patterson Counter Clockwise loop that goes up to Mt Pat first then down to Aurora & Bodie and Lunch. Many riders never get to Mt Pat taking the old 195 Mi Clockwise loop that used the very difficult Ricky Mine trail."
But by the time we got to Bridgeport lunch it was kinda late to do the full 170mi (late start and a slow guy on a KLR650:laughing. And damn, that double track climb out of Bodie... damn!), so we did some different dirt roads back which was quicker.

On Sunday we did:
"Markleeville Loop (65 Mi) Lots of slow Single Track on way to Markleeville (35 Mi) for early lunch/gas then
fast (30 Mi) way back to Topaz. ... This is a very
tough ride with lots of Single Track. Not suitable for Adventure Bikes."

But skipped all the pavement which was an out and back to Markleeville

It was all the more adventure for me considering
I've never ridden that much dirt in 2 days before (155+55).
My 18 year old KLR with 50/50 tires (shinko am244's)
Never really ridden desert/sand before (I'll bet knobbies would help there!)
Never navigated by GPS before

But it was a blast!
Lots of gnarlyness:

We came across others being put to the challenge, too:
