As far as I know, and I have looked, there is no rideable route from the east side of Berryessa over the ridge to Hwy 16.

There is a road (Road 78 or 78A I think) that goes up to the radio towers from Hwy 16 up the ridge but the road is gated and closed to everything but the radio/phone service guys.

You can ride down the gravel road on the east side of Berryessa but it all leads to private homes and land.

If you do ride it, be aware of your dust as you go by the houses. The folks there don't appreciate you going by at 60.

Thanks. I might go check it out next week to see if you are correct. From what I can tell, the road there does lead to a tower of some sorts so you probably are right. In that case I will see if I can find another way. Yeah, I will try and take it easy near the houses. If I find a route, I will be sure to report back.

Saturday Ride.

Rode Hwy 16 to intersection with 20 then up Bear Valley Rd to Leesville/Ladoga Rd. Very pretty up the valley. A small diversion up Leesville Road to the top since it's so much fun - But as the road climbs up to the top the surface gets very hard with lots of marbled corners. Dropped my tire pressure down to 18/22 and went much better but best to be careful on a big bike.

From there went up to Letts Lake via Fouts springs and up Potatoe Hill trail. (NOT recommended for a big bike). It's very dry and dusty up there already. Best big bike access to Letts Lake is by Fouts Springs Rd to FS road 17NO2. Not challenging but nice to take it easy and enjoy the scenery.

Then over to Maxwwell and slogged down old Hwy 99 back to Davis.

I'll be down for this ride once I figure out how I'm going to carry extra fuel on the WR250R. I still have the stock 2 gallon tank which only gets me about ~100 miles avg.

This weekend the forecast says it's sunny on Sunday. I'm going to see if I can join. I'll definitely need an extra gallon or two of gas to make it to Cache Creek.

It’s supposed to rain pretty heavy this Friday and Saturday. The Berryessa Knoxville portion may be ok but road 40 can get awfully messy after a good rain.

It’s doable muddy for sure. Buuuutttt... Here’s some pics of a buddy’ Bike that had to be left up there for a week and change after it took them over an hour to go 1 mile at the top of road 40. Goodbye clutch! To be clear, these guys are “A” riders, shop owners, racers, etc. most with 25 years plus of riding. I’d do it on my 400 but the adventure would be a bit much if it’s super muddy. I’m also healing from a femur fracture so will probably pass on this Sunday.

gone for now
when I click on the closure I get:

Please be advised Road 40 (aka Rayhouse Road) is not maintained in Yolo County, and is closed to vehicular traffic at State Route 16 in Yolo County.

It's closed at Hwy16 to cars, but Motorcycles can get around the gate without a problem

It shouldn't be closed on the other end.

Ok. I would hate to get to the Cache Creek side and not be able to get through as I'd be close to empty on gas. Maybe I'll start from the East. Anyone down to ride it today?
