AAA and covid-19

I haven't seen it mentioned and if old info apologies.

last week I had a problem on the road and was 67 miles from home and called AAA and was told that due to the virus they were not letting passengers ride in the cab with the vehicle in tow. So be warned that if you need a tow while riding your bike you will also need to find a way to get your self home.

Took a while but all was ok and I fixed the bike and was on my way home after a couple of hours.

I was remarking to a friend earlier how "I bet AAA suddenly became very glad they are a yearly subscription and not monthly subscription service."

I went to the Santa Clara AAA (Stevens Creek Blvd) just last Friday to do a vessel title transfer.
They are open 9-4 weekdays only (for now).
They meet you at the door, ask health questions, have you fill out the paperwork on a table outside then send you in to process.
There were no lines when we went in to transfer my boat to my son (gift transfer).
Cost more to transfer the trailer than the boat. (?)

I just found out AAA will now only tow once per year back to one's residense.
Also, I didnt know they won't tow a non-opped or out of reg vehicle.

Premium.
The tow driver came but refused to tow my scooter 1.5 miles to my place. I even offered him extra cash. Said it would be $130.

I'm missing the driver's reasoning here, if he is a tow truck driver, you are a paying member, why would he refuse to tow your scooter?
As I consider going out on my two wheeler a bit more this concerns me.

I would take this up with AAA. Your membership includes towing to a place of your choosing. Doesn't have to be a repair facility.

I called AAA to verify and they said they only tow currently regestered vehicles. That was the issue here but while on the phone, AAA also said its now only one tow to a non-shop per year.
I've used AAA several times for car and bikes in the last 5 years and I never had a tow driver ask for my reg before.
He said AAA wouldnt pay them w/o proof of reg.

They are making things too complicated. I remember 10 or 12 years ago my wife and I were driving home from Tahoe when our van’s transmission started having problems. We made it as far as Davis when the van finally gave up the ghost. We called AAA and within 30 minutes the truck came, hooked up our van and drove us home to Pleasanton. I guess those days are over and now we’d have call Uber. I just renewed my membership last month and I’m wondering why now.

I don't like that you can't ride in the cab but can see the safety issue. I can handle much of my own maintenance and home is where the work will be done. One tow to home once a year is not acceptable, guess I'll have to check out other options renewal time.:shame

I just renewed also. I would be interested in options. I have a premium card, with my wife and daughter added to it. My best guess is that any one of us that needs the machine brought home will end the usefulness of the card. Damn. Anybody affiliated with AAA that knows about this?
