A Glorious Ride : Carmel > Bixby Bridge > Mission Carmel > 1 North > 156 > 101 > SJ
A few days ago, I was just clicking away 'General' and saw this: Empty Truck to Carmel so I took Big G up on her offer !
Gwynne picked me up on Thurs. 7/24 morning @ ~ 9am in South San Jose, we load up the 250 on her same black truck that she took Junkee & BossDog to Yellowstone a couple weekends back !! :thumbup We headed down 101 S to Carmel Rd where G needed to pick up a rental Bonneville rented in SF but was returned in Carmel that morning. We had a very pleasant breakfast, chat on the ride down...
It's a WORLD of difference between DRIVING from Carmel to Big Sur and RIDING on a bike !! Riding this route is much much better !!! The wind, the sun, the scenery, the turns, the smells of gas, noise from the engine & the pipes.....
Gas stop in Salinas
We got to Carmel Rd jut across from Laguna off from 68 ~ 11am. Took us a few minutes to find the exact pick up location among nice oak trees :
Found the secluded resort. Made contact. We unloaded my 250 and loaded the Bonneville. I really topped up my tank on Wed. night so my 250 went to the bathroom a bit on G's truck bed :laughing but all system was go
Close up on the Bonneville
250 gleaming, all ready to go !
Said goodbye and I was on my way to my nice little SOLO ride on Carmel Rd, westward. 10 miles later, I hit Hwy 1
I headed southbound on Cabrillo Hwy. Spectacular summery coastal weather, late morning chill but just right! Traffic was light, lots of tourists in the Monterey Peninsula enjoying the day. Hit that sandy beach just south of Carmel at Carmel River where I went on my first Open Water Scuba dive back in the late 80s, IIRC... or was it at Del Mar beach ? :dunno
onward south
Finally, highlight of the whole ride: THE famous Bixby Bridge, built in 1932.
'course, no ride without our salute, right ?
DA BRIDGE
Beautiful crystal clear beach right under the bridge. There is a trail to go down there...
