RIP rider, don't go so fast on vulnerable roads

“He must have had a moment of fear at the end of his life; I find that very hard to deal with. David was the most wonderful son and his loss has left such a void in our lives. Being without him has changed everything; our lives ended that day and I can truly say I know the meaning of heartache, it really does hurt; it’s a physical pain.” said his mother.

What's up with the annotation saying, "too many people die riding bikes! please share!"?

Regardless, that's a hard video to watch and a sobering reminder of how quickly you can be done for.

Did the rider die on impact?

Just watched with audio and you hear him yell "fuck!" Some how that makes it worse for me.

He says "Whoa!" Regardless it was his last word.

Here is a longer and I think better version that has his mom being interviewed.

Hard-hitting footage of a fatal collision in Norfolk has been released by police in a bid to get motorcyclists and drivers to think seriously about road safety. Viewers are warned that this video contains content which some may find distressing, but it does not show any graphic images of the rider during or after the collision and they are given the option to refrain from viewing.

I was just about to post this, as I came across it on A&R.

I listened to it again, still sounds like fuck to me. But that's besides the point.

Sad all around and a reminder of how loss effects those left behind.

The full vid adds to the full life of a human being and sure creates a little deeper hole in ones heart.

I ran across it on FB and it's amazing how many people are flat out blaming the rider for the collision. Yes he was speeding, but you need to be sure the intersection is clear and it is safe to proceed BEFORE entering. Yes his speed was a factor, but the cage driver made the mistake of not paying enough attention to all of the conditions around him/her.

RIP rider.

Could be, but its true, it doesn't matter.

Agreed. Not to mention he was just hyped from watching racing and seeing his Antartica trip friends...It just makes the whole thing much more relateable while also making it harder to watch...

Definitely RIP.

The car didn't look, but even if they had he was going WAY fast. Not even just a little bit fast but a lot fast. I don't think I can absolve him of blame. I am definitely empathetic but even as a rider I'm not going put this one entirely on that car. Had he been going slower he'd probably still be here.

I think that is what his mom is trying to say. Cars need to look, and riders need to be more careful.

*sigh* It's a sad reality that our sport draws in those with an itch for cheap thrills, and that many of them are really, really great people. RIP David, and riders galore.

Take it to the dirt or the track to let that inner hooligan out, guys. Takes out factors like the primary one here, cross traffic with greater vehicles. I can't imagine finding myself traveling that speed on the street in those conditions after having discovered the alternatives. Trackdays/racing/dirt really put going fast on the street into perspective. The fun/risk ratio just doesn't make sense anymore. Especially in the age of smart phones and GPS. It was already bad enough before.

The moment the car turns in front of him is enough to make anybody's butt pucker! :(

Yeah, made me jump too, followed by a cold sweat.

The guy was going 97 mph in a 60 mph zone when the impact occurred (UK news covered it in detail). Both rider and driver made serious errors. I watched the video several times, was amazing to see that guy blow past red warning strips at 100 mph and not slow down, he never braked the whole time that I could see, he did swerve slightly at the end.

So sad. Condolences to his family.

Im not so sure a person can accurately judge closing speed/distance from something so small and something going that fast. Add in some gloomy weather, road conditions etc.

No matter whose fault it is, it all goes back to riding within your sightline/talent ability. For the most part, that will keep you out of situations such as this. 60mph vs 90+ = life or death.

That vid hits home pretty good. I had a very similar thing happen several weeks ago.
I wasn't going as fast, and just barely managed to maneuver to avoid the collision. That was one of those, "I would have been dead" moments.

This is it in a nut shell for me. With his speed on the moto the car driver is not at fault in my eyes. Lucky the rider didn't kill anyone else besides himself..
