2020 Yamaha YZ125X Offroad machine

Wow..... this looks very interesting. I've always had turning a YZ125 into woods bike project on the bucket list. First look article here from ultimate motorcycling.com.

I am sure folks on the internet are going to start debating how it falls short of the KTM 150 XC-W, lack of estart blah blah blah... :rolleyes

But this isnt a YZ125 with just an 18 rear wheel and o ring chain. Sounds like significant engine modifications which I'll be keen to hear more about. Its lighter than the 19 KTM non TPI 150, $1700 cheaper, and with IMO a superior suspension. I imagine the 2020 KTM 150 TPI will be even more expensive and perhaps a pound or two heavier.

Frankly, small bore two strokes really dont need an estart IMO. I'm old, fat, and out of shape with no problem kicking my 250 over even on the side of a hill. 1962siia kicks over his KTM 200 with nary a complaint... and he's prone to it. :laughing :twofinger

I'm sure that $1700 or more price differential and fantastic suspension will win many folks over. Say nothing of OEM parts price savings (start flame war.) :rolleyes

I really hope we get a chance to ride it at a Yamaha demo day this year. I think Yamaha has a winner on their hands in this bike.

Regardless if you drink the orange Koolaid or not, its exciting to see another OEM taking the two stroke offroad market serious. :thumbup

That magic button does something that every MC company is trying to do right now. It brings in female marketshare. My neighbor just sold his daughters kicker bike for one with an E-start. His wife is now looking at ditching the kicker too.

If they were serious, they would make another me-too 300 e-start that the market demands.

Yeh, I know everyone asks for estart. On fourstrokes, they are a definitely a welcome addition. Something pure about kick only small bore two strokes. Well tuned ones are just so easy to start, far easier than any fourstroke. I get it though.

As for a 300, I dunno. I've ridden mine and Madsens YZ250's (both modified for offroad) back to back against new Husky and KTM 300's. Not saying the YZ is better (it isnt.) But it doesnt give up that much to them. I also dont long for one, expecially at that price point. Estart would be cool, but not a "need" for me. But I totally understand and appreciate those who feel it is.

Regardless, very cool to see this bike. I'm excited!

The 300 is only 90% of the YZ250, right CJ? :rofl

I'm happy with mine--but that's because I can't afford a new Beta 200RR or TPI 300. Their suspension, brakes, powerband, clutch feel are all superior to that of the dated YZ. The YZ is much cheaper to own and damn near bullet proof so I'm not complaining about it.
No hydro clutch.

After removing 2 clutch springs, my clutch pull is very close to that of hydraulic. I had a hydraulic clutch blow the slave cylinder seal and then the master seal up and the lever which gave me a ton of headaches. Can't say I wouldn't mind one...but hardly a deciding factor.

Yeah, I'm looking for an e start TTR125L to replace the TTR125L that I JUST bought because I know it's going to be MORE work for me when my daughter stalls it.

If my KDX200 ever died, I'd be in the market for one of these for all the reasons you mentioned!
