Seems like the "2018" middleweight BMW Adv bikes are finally showing up here in the US (or anywhere as far as I can tell).

I haven't seen any local here in SoCal yet mentioned at the dealers, but a dealer in Dallas has the 700's in stock and is taking deposits on the others.

The story earlier in the year was November for the 750/850s.

So "soonish" on those.

It's surprising to me that they're still carrying the F700GS.

Well, maybe not really. I think the 700GS has a pretty good reputation, and seemed to be pretty popular. And perhaps as a cheaper, "more entry level" to the GS brand (beyond the 310), vs the new models.

But I am surprised that BMW didn't ship the 700s all year long and are just bringing them out now along with the new 750/850 models.

Anyway, I doubt anyone is really chomping at the bit waiting for these, but they seem to be on their way. I've been waiting all year for them.

the 700GS appeals to shorter riders as well, and for those who are coming off the 650GS thumper....

Yeah my dealer was bummed last year when they ran out of F700's (I bought the last one), they said it was one of their best selling models.

I'm short(ish), the F700GS/F750GS are the biggest BMW's I can ride without lowered suspension.

I had the choice of waiting for the new models, but decided not to, delayed gratification with motos isn't really my thing. :)

Given how much the electronics are upgraded on the F750 I wouldn't be surprised if the price difference was enough to justify the two models (at least in BMW's mind - who seem willing to chase every niche imaginable in both their auto and moto lineups).

So now we have a basic entry-bike, and an advanced entry-bike, both aimed at shorter and female riders, I for one am liking the increased choice, a few more models for us shorter people thank you. :)

Wake me next year when the next wave of F850 bikes starts to appear. I wonder what will follow the GS. F850XR? GT? R?

Ever try an R1200R? Not familiar with the current generation, but mine is fairly low with a regular seat, and according to specs I find, the low seat is lower than the F750GS low seat.

Talked to the dealer, and basically he's under effectively a gag order about the bikes until October. He's taking pre-orders, and can go over pricing and options and what not, but that's about it.

The suggestion is basically that in October, the sheet drops and all of the reviews and such will appear, etc.

The boxer bikes are actually pretty small compared to the rest of the line, not the RT or GS, but the R, the Nine/T and such.

Yes thanks, but I like to commute on long-throw suspension bikes, so adv bikes with low seats and non-lowered suspension is where I try to go.

I can get almost 1.5 inches more suspension travel on an R1200GS with lowered suspension than on an R1200R, and the F800R is even less. Even though both have low seats, I need cushy comfort for my aging back, sport bikes typically aren't that. :)

It might be worth a test ride of those bikes someday though, I don't actually know how much harsher the ride is.

I've been trying to demo ride a G310GS and they keep getting sold I'd imagine when the F850GS will probably be the same story. F850GS, from what I hear it is good all around middle weight adventure bike..

Whats interesting to me is that they simply didn't make these 2019 bikes. Maybe they got pushed back or had some development issues to bring to production.

In hindsight, it almost makes sense they didn't bring out the 700GS this year, as it would put the dealers in the spot of trying to sell the "old model" with the new one breathing down their necks, but not available. So, many would not be able to make a rational choice until the new ones were available.

I dunno.

If any of you are interested in seeing the new F750/850GS's the shop I work at (San Jose BMW) is having a tech night this Thursday @ 6:30.
We will have bikes to look at/sit on & Willie (shop GM) just got back from riding a F850GS for a week at BMW's reveal.

How about a 400 pound adventure bike with around 100 HP! Not another 500 pound sub 100 HP adventure bike!

I want to try one too. Same story up here all sold immediately. So I demoed the 310R just to get an idea about the bikes. I thought it was a great bike but wouldn't buy one. Kinda the same issue as my old Ninja 250, just felt under powered at freeway speed. I have no doubt these bikes will become popular abroad where riders don't need to commute at 70 mph. I was actually thinking of getting one to keep in Thailand. But $300 more for a CB500X, I'm going that route.

KTM 790 Adventure R.

You'll only have to wait another year for that one. I couldn't wait and bought the 1090 R. And I'm happy with that one.

I did the same thing. I actually liked the G310R it felt pretty torquey for a small engine. The bike was really interesting to ride, the best way I can describe it is its a big mini bike.

Will be interesting to see how these play out.

So BMW drops the Austrian produced Rotax 800 twin and goes with a Chinese produced 850, and raises the price of the bikes. So the consumer pays more, gets a possibly less reliable and less well made engine, and BMW gets more profits.

I'm sure this sounded good at some BMW board meeting. :)

I don't think you can reasonably manage to make a bike that meets those specifications.

If you want a bike with 100hp that only weighs 400lb, it's going to be minimalist. The KTM 950SE is around 420 + fuel, as an example, and that's without a fairing, without a big tank, without luggage, etc. I'm not aware of anything else that really approaches that light, while making decent power.
