Hell yea.

While we all dream about the return of 2 stroke bikes, allowing us to run laps down Redwood Rd on our brand new 75HP 300lb 2018 Yamaha TZR250Rs... Well... that fantasy will likely never see the light of day.

At least we'll get to watch some semi-dated 2T bikes screaming around the Mountain.

“The timing is right to introduce a race for proper 250cc two-stroke grand prix racing motorcycles at the Classic TT. They are so popular with fans because of the unique sounds and smells they produce. We are confident that we will attract a quality line up of riders on board some first class machinery for this new addition to the Classic TT race programme.”

Adverse Selection
To clarify, the Classic TT is not the IOM-TT. It's historic racing that occurs in the same fortnight as the Manx GP at the end of August. This is the same meeting that includes races for things like Norton Manxs, Triumph Tridents, Paton 500's, RG500's, and the lot.

It's cool that it's happening, but it's not a signal that new 2 stroke racers are about to be coming out of the factories. Instead, it's about dusting off the old ones and giving them a premier event in which to run.

Clarification appreciated! Was not aware there was a difference... Shame to be disappointed, but I was born in Cleveland, so it's par for the course.

No worries. A lot of the same riders participate in both events. The Dunlops, Anstey, Guy Martin, and the rest usually ride the classic TT, and I would guess that someone will put first rate 250's under Michael, and William, and I'd further guess that the absolute lap record for 250's will be under assault.

As a side note, there's a good argument for attending races on the island other than the IOM-TT. Easier to book rooms, easier to find places to spectate, easier to book ferries, same great racing. Plus we had TWO BARFers racing the Manx this year. :banana

And I know a certain former AMA/FIM National/GP rider who takes his TZ/RD hybrids up & down RR regularly. The sound of expansion chambers bouncing off the hills is something to behold...(distant stare....)......sigh...

Ah the smell of 2-stroke in the morning....smells like....victory.
