2015 Yamaha R1 review

How well does the electronics work on this thing? In the past on most liter bikes i've heard the TC to be obtrusive but on this bike i hear otherwise. In addition i see there is slide control, launch control, etc which makes it really cool!

I'm not going fast enough to really test out the traction control and slide control. I'm doing like 2:10 at Thunderhill, which seems fast to me....until an AMA guy flies by! :laughing

I think Holeshot here on BARF test rode an R1 & wrote that the traction control just made the bike feel like it was slow while leaned over, and as the angle got picked up, the power came back unobtrusively.

^^^ If You choose to plush your suspension, via the RaceTec route...
Ask for Tony in R&D....

Not as fast as I look.
The harshness that the public road introduces, is fixable , RaceTec internals does the deed.

Twitchy throttle is fixable. Dan Kyle Racing fixed a TLR I took to him.
Yep, it's all fixable. Buy a 2015 S1000RR with dynamic damping and it is all fixed. :thumbup

Awesome review. I am too enamored by this bike.

Yeah, me too. Then I remember that I rode my last liter bike about 1,000 miles per year, I never do trackdays, I don't race anymore and I don't even have room in the garage for another bike... so I'm not sure what I could do with a new R1 but it sounds soooo bitchin'! :teeth

I really like your review.. I wish I can afford one. So many great bikes out. I would like to see the new zx10 give the r1 a run. Its nuts that 10 years ago you can almost buy 2 r1's for that price. Given I don't make double the amount in pay. 4 choices of bikes.. r1, rsv4, s1k, zx10 >>>> 1krr??? :rolleyes

Also...if I'm not mistaken, there are still Yamaha owners trackdays still being held. :shhh

When/where?!? I don't recall one being held last year, at least not in the same fashion as they used to be at Laguna Seca and 103db days :cool

You may be right. A search didn't show up anything for the past couple of years. :( However, that doesn't necessarily mean that they're dead and gone for good. :ride

I think you're mistaken. Haven't heard of one for 2 or 3 years now.

Was GREAT when they happened though and really made me a loyal customer that Yamaha would stand behind their product like that and do what they could to get their bikes out there on the track where they belong! :thumbup

Can I be....frank?

It's a conundrum...if I do trackdays, I may as well race. The risk is the same. I've found the best way to avoid this conundrum is to not own a motorcycle. :laughing

Where was this R1 when I needed it? Came too late for me.
