2015 KTM Super Duke Full Akra ECU Flash

I'm not entirely sure where I should be asking this...but here it goes..

I want to change my exhaust to the full system Akrapovic, which requires the ECU Akrapovic flash. Obviously it states this is for "offroad" use only but this will be on my daily :thumbup

I know this isn't street legal but there are plenty of us that don't obey that law :rolleyes

My question is how the hell am I going to get the ECU flash.. will a dealer do this for me? Or is it best to send my ECU out somewhere (out of state dealer) and get it flashed?
I haven't asked my dealer yet, I guess I could tell them it's for a track bike??
I'm not even sure if California dealers have access to this tune? Not sure why they wouldn't have it??

Looking to order this
https://ktmtwins.com/collections/1290-duke/products/akrapovic-61305999000

Hoping to get some feedback from anyone that has a 1290 SDR and has been through this.

Thanks everyone!

I don't think CA dealers will touch it.

I have never been able to get tunecu to reliably connect to 1190+ ECU.

you could send your ECU outside CA to get it flashed?

I've been using a tune from KTM USA for a full akra system on my RC8R. it has O2 sensor enabled. I was told it will run rich at idel/low speed if I disable the O2. this maps seems to run excellent. this was uploaded by a no longer in business dealer.

Thats too bad lol.
I guess I could just run a PC5 with auto tune? That should work?

KTM dealers can down load the KTM Akro map. Many have done it across the nation. California dealers maybe afraid to do it. But I know some have. Call around. This is a KTM exculsive Power Parts exhaust and down load developed to promote "Ready to Race" Or maybe not?

KTM may be ready to race, but the dealership aren't ready to get fined out of business.

Exactly. Ready to Race but not Ready for Lawsuit.
I'll see what the dealer says when I call and ask.
Mach 1 is the dealer I bought it from and they've been pretty upfront and good guys.

Take off the lights and blinkers. trailer the bike to the dealer. Have them do the flash. When I was at Ducati we would not do any fuel tuning if the bike was shown as a street bike. It it arrived and left on a trailer we were ok since we never saw it officially as a street bike.

That's a pretty good idea :thumbup
I can't imagine they wont flash the tune for "track/race bike"
I'll give them a call and find out.

Thanks for the idea

Update:
I've emailed KTM Twins to see how i can get my ECU flashed.
This was their response (which I sorta expected)
" KTM does not allow any ECU to be touched in California, BUT you could check with Factory Pro in San Rafael, I know that they do some ECU and MAP work.."

Anyone have experience with Factory Pro Tune? I just sent them an email asking if they can help.

It's basically no longer possible to get a street bike tuned on a dyno in CA. Nobody wants to lose their license and get fined out of existence. You can send the ECU out of state.

I'll also be amazed if Marc (Factory Pro) offers this service for streetbikes.

When I installed the Akra pipe on my 2012 RC8R, I used TuneEcu to load the KTM recommended map. The map still had some stumbling coming off neutral throttle onto the power, so I called Wheelsmith, which is either affliated or owned by Factory Pro, I'm not sure.
They used TuneEcu to modify the map to perfection, IMHO, as it is smooth as butter.
The bike was trailered there, and was in track configuration, without light, plate, and with slicks mounted.
I would def recommend their services if they're able to tune the ecu you have.

Yeah i remember how simple it was just a few years ago.. or what seems like a few years ago.
I was considering talking to the KTM dealership in Carson and see if they will do it. I'm willing to pay more than what I should to get it done (within reason).

Got it. How did you go about receiving the KTM recommended map?

The map I needed was listed on the TuneEcu site. There's about 20 or so RC8 maps listed and available for download there.
The hardest part was getting the right map number, as it wasn't listed in the KTM instructions that came with the club kit. All it said was something like "use the KTM user setting tool to load proper tune". I had to call KTM America corporate in order to get the right map, cause the dealer just gave me the deer in the headlights look when I called to ask them.
As a rule in my experience owning a KTM street bike, the local dealers don't know shit, or they intentionally act stupid when you ask questions.

Ohh ok. I'm glad KTM Corporate was willing to cooperate and help you out.
I can see the dealers acting that way though. They have to protect themselves first. As for TuneEcu it doesn't look like they have anything for the 1290.
Maybe I can try that OpenFlash you linked earlier.

My first step will be to try and contact the closest KTM dealer out of state and see what they can do.

I really appreciate your time and help on this

Marc said if I get the PCV he will do it for me and I'll get better results this route because he will tune it.

I haven't read much on Factory Pro, do you have any experience with them or heard anything about them?

if you are going piggyback route, ask Marc if he has experience with Rapid Bike Evo

monitors oem o2 sensors and runs a base map as well as auto tuning map that alters +/- fueling in any cell to ensure proper fueling in real time. bonus points if you use the wideband o2 sensor addon where you can set per cell the A:F ratio rather than the oem o2 sensors which just sees 0.0-1.0 volts

i realize that route may be more involved than you would like, but it ensures optimal fueling under all operating conditions :teeth

I haven't read much into the Rapid Bike Evo, but it does sound impressive and way over my head lol.
